I'm quite certain that you have proven to be an invaluable asset to the MyBB team. I must admit that at first, I was a bit skeptical about the newly redesigned administrative interface - after using it for a few minutes, that changed.

Great. I do look forward to following the progress with MyBB.

I'm a vBulletin designer, and am currently considering "branching out". MyBB has been on my radar scope for some time. I did try MyBB for a forum idea when it was first released but found it chunky and a bit confusing. I've been waiting for a re-write, and will likely download it soon.

    Thanks for the information. :D

    Definitely great news about MyBB!

I used MyBB for a week or two and only when I was starting out. So, I really can't say anything bad about it. I jumped pretty much right into vBulletin because of the support communities out there. Since I was a newbie a little over a year ago to websites, I wanted to have something that I could definitely have A LOT of assistance with and vBulletin seemed to naturally be that option for me. Even if I had to pay for it, I saw it as an investment in my own education about running forums.

Now, I don't think that I would do anything with a 'free' alternative other than to test out some concepts without having to put the license fees out there for a new vBulletin license. But, I would only go with an option which, again, offered very good support. With having "the" developer for MyBB here, I would most certainly use MyBB in the future.

Did you happen to use a pre-1.4 release of MyBB?

I don't recall Chris. It was last March when I tried it out, I believe. So, whichever version was around March of 2008 is the one :)

I'm sure I did. It had just come out.

I don't remember the exact date as to when it was released - I'm sure that Justin could chime in on this. :)

MyBB? I know it's been at least a couple of years if not longer. At least I think so.

MyBB 1.4 was released in August of 2008, so if you used one before then (such as March of 2008), it would have been 1.2. MyBB 1.4 is a huge improvement to 1.2. ;)

If I recall correctly, MyBB 1.2 used the "legacy" postbit, while MyBB 1.4 now uses the newer horizontal style version, right? I suppose that was borrowed from vB. :p

Correct, 1.2 had only the classic vertical postbit, whereas 1.4 defaults to the horizontal postbit. 1.4 has a user setting that allows each user to choose between the horizontal and classic postbits (as well as a global one for guests and new registrants).

    LOL! :p

I just said I was thinking about it! I have an extra vb and vbseo license right now that I'm not using. Just don't now if I want to use them for this. The vbseo is hard to change domains ;) I don't really want to use phpbb either though :o

I wouldn't use it - but if you really feel the need to do so, place it in a password-protected, ultra-secure folder that is not accessible. Hah!

They're not that bad! As long as you keep it updated you should be fine. The time they got hacked was because of a 3rd party software, that they didn't keep updated!!

But yeah I still hear what you're saying.

It's not so much the security-related issues that make me cringe... it's the god-awful design and poor layout.
