Which free forum software is your favorite?

phpBB is probably the best free forum software available out there

 

IPB for commercial. XenForo seems to be doing a good job. vB is worthless.

 

The OP was asking for which "FREE FORUM SOFTWARE" is your favorite not your favorite "PAID FORUM SOFTWARE"

Anyways, I love phpBB but the mod installation is too time consuming, however myBB doesn't look professional.

 

Would go with phpBB, only free one I've used.

The only free software you ever used.But it is the one you think people should chose?

That does not make sense to me.

I know of people who chose SMF for a specific reason.Vekseid who is a member here.Explains why he use THAT particular forum software.Despite that he admits it has some shortcomings.It has to do with the permission system it offers.It fits his needs the best.

The best free software to use is the one that best fits your needs.

I use myBB because it meets what I want in a free software.I tried phpBB3 and SMF.I liked myBB better.

I likes a few other forum software too.I went through the demos with many.But ended up with myBB.

 

Should of been the only one I've used on a live site. Tested all the others locally but never got on with them.

 

The icons and the layout and what not appear childish and lack professionalism compared to other boards.

 

That is the DEFAULT theme.It is adequate to start with.Can be changed or replaced.

I am using something nicer for my forum.It came from Justin S.Who is the theme developer for myBB.

phpBB is also composed of unpaid code writers, they are all volunteers, meanwhile they can at least design a professional theme instead of a childish theme. It really shows you the lack of talent disparity between the two.

You have no idea how silly you come across.

Several theme designers in this forum.Have stated that phpBB3 templates are messy and hard to change without screwing it up.

The default theme is commonly disliked by many.They often use the old classical theme in its place.Or download a theme from themes list.When I had the phpBB3 forum back in 2007.Almost everybody complained about the default theme.So it changed it to the old classic theme that was used in phpbb2.Ended up adding a couple of nice designed phpbb3 themes.The default was used only in the very beginning.Right after we had upgraded from the old phpbb2 version.

I have seen many phpbb3 forums not using the default theme.In fact I hardly ever see the default theme at all anywhere.They have quickly dropped it and put in something else.
