What is considered a normal amount of memory for a shared/vps server?

I had Elliquiy with Acceleratedweb until we were constantly taking up 10-25% of their CPU, with significant time at 99%, a one gig database and ~2m pageviews/month. Of course, they're not a cheap host.

I don't know who your current host is, so it would be hard to say.

 

The host I was with for shared hosting had, at one time, a limit of 29 users on a server.

You might want to check with them? I know they sustained us for a LONG time, unlike Dreamhost and Lunarpages.

What I learned when we tried to go with VPS is that we actually got LESS server power than we had when we were on Shared, so it was better to just go from shared to dedicated.

Something about the shared server being a bigger better machine that we had access to ALL the resources, whereas when we went to VPS, we did not have to share, but we also tapped out the resources faster because we did not have access to 100% of the server resources.

Of course, that could all be sales talk, but it kinda made sense to me.

 

I remember your posts vividly and refer to them often when deciding out next step, thank you for those. I thought what they had told you was quite reasonable.

Sorry for taking so long. I stayed with Ace-Host. We were able to work through all the problems, they were patient and helped educate me and really worked to keep us happy.

Their tech support is amazing.
