I didn't know how to put it, but basically what you said. I would actually treat them nicely about it, not THAT rudely.

True, but perhaps he/she should have refrained from making such comments in the first place - don't dish it out if you can't take it right back. ;)

I actually had someone follow me from vb.org to my forum and signup and ask to be a mod "Hi, I saw you on vb.org and like the look of your site - can I be a moderator here to learn how to run a site?" Um.... thanks for the interest, but I have enough mods.

How about taking a tactic like, "Oh good, you know all about vB? I've been looking for someone with your skills, could you code me a mod that does X? Once you're finished I'll have a position available for you. Kthnxbye!"

They're not likely trying to dish anything out.

After using such a tactic, they'd more than likely bolt!

Well, in my opinion, regardless if you know the software or not, the forum might be specifically about the software, therefore, no matter how much you know, you need to know more about the niche, in my opinion anyways.... if that made sense xD

Only ever had one person join and then ask if mod postitions were available.

I simply told them the truth - we were not currently looking for mods, but when a position became available, we would advertise it, and they were welcome to apply (as was any member).
