I'm not going to say I don't get spam, because I do, but I actually have a few mods and options to catch (almost) everything: Cyb - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count - No links under 10 posts vbStopForumSpam - check spam database on registration. I don't even use capcha/Q&A on signup any more. vBulletin options: Verify email addresses - This should be on by default, shame on you vBulletin! Akismet anti-spam service - these guys are usually dead on. Even better, I allow guest posting in all forums now. Of course, all threads/posts by guests must be approved, and those with URLs are denied, but I don't see a problem with this. I haven't been hit with any spam at all on the forum I have this setup on.
You make it sound as if we were bombed with SPAM this morning. I simply removed one thread (and banned one individual); nothing major compared to what was being experienced a few days ago.
Well these idiot spam bots seem to just come and try to sell their phones most likely. To keep them from posting, i figured just spam them with visitor messages. Seems to work EDIT: wow this is my 907th post, thats my area code :p
I assumed that you admins on AA are so active that reporting the spam was unnecessary. Do you want us to report the posts/spam?
Only one report per spammer. In other words, if a single spammer makes 100 spam posts, please only report one of them. If 20 spammers post 200 spam posts, you would theoretically make 20 reports.
I guess you could waste your money with a bot programmed to only post once. Would be a very pathetic campaign. Bots are designed to inundate a site with links from multiple campaigns so that the person running the bot makes money. When you're offering 1,000 posts for about $10.00, volume is the key. Multiple posts also increases the likelihood that something will be missed and your message will live more than a few minutes.
