    I'm totally confused.

But I did I mention your friend also writes correctly, using proper grammar?

Wow this thread is harsh. You should look at the different commercial style providers for your budget. Going to be tough to get a completely custom style for that budget. Sorry, just speaking factually. If someone takes 10 hours to create you a custom style, you're paying minimum wage or less. However you could purchase a commercial style for about $40.00 and then have the colors customized for your needs. Or you could have a logo created.

To be honest I would be really leery of someone offering their friend's talents for free as well. Stay away from offers like these because you may not be a priority not because of their work. Unless someone is doing free work to improve their portfolio, it is probably not high on their priority list. If they are really good than contact them personally and see if you can come to a work for hire agreement. In the long run, you'll get better quality and be more satisfied with the results.

Harsh/unnecessary/insulting posts removed. Please try to keep the thread derailment to a minimum. ;)

But does he provide the after support that is the most important aspect of purchasing styles.

A good reputation for providing support after the style is complete is paramount and you cannot buy this. Sure free is always better but one of the reasons I never got into the styling business is because of the support afterwards. It doesn't end when a style is completed which people should be aware of when purchasing or receiving something that's free.

Peggy most of here love you and your designs. Especially around the holidays.

So true. 2days after you have it installed vb will release an upgrade/patch and you'll have template modification. In the mean time your 'free' theme is open to anyone that knows the way in through the back door.

So trust and reputation also have a lot going for them.

I love peggy's designs and am currently working on getting my budget up (amongst other things I have to pay for) to commission a theme from her - I think her work is the best you would find on here hands down - apart from FMB when it comes to graphics/mybb designs.

But really it all depends, do your home work and look through people's websites and portfolios this is just my opinion from what I have seen from the people on here.

For just straight out graphics such as logos etc there are a number of great designers on here and the best one I have worked with would definately be hands down FMB - she not only creates the banners etc but also offers support afterwards if you need something changed, or anything she does her best to make you happy.

As I said these are just my opinions, some people may not agree but it is from experience in working with FMB, and from doing alot of research on the internet in regards to a custom theme that I have come up with this stuff.

We have just hired a designer for our forum. I spent weeks researching designers and I will tell you I've been working with VBulletin for years as an admin/mod.

I decided on someone I've known to be in the business for years. He is not the cheapest quote we recieved, but trust and the ability to contact him day or night was a big plus for me. For you designers out there, MSN/Skype anything like that will get you sales, just stating the obvious here :)

So now he is working on our new skin and I hope to have it going soon. I have a heavily modified board and this is why you pay big $. A great tip on building a relationship with whomever you pick, is to let them know there might future work if things go well. I know my designer will be getting extra commissions based on the success of the skin design. This provides incentives for the designer to do the tiny bit extra for you, maybe.

If you want a completely unique and wonderful custom forum skin, be prepared to spend upwards of $1000 - $2000 or more US dollars. Make sure you find out where the company or designer is located. What country. It was important for me because we would have consumer protections, if our design company was located within a place like UK or the US. If you go with a company say located in China or Romania for example, you can forget any consumer protections there. Not bashing those countries, just stating some experiences working from those countries.

    Regards
    Relic

Very well said. Trustworthiness, reputation and good after support. Once you found a person such as this you never want to let these kind go so it's always good to keep them on your contact list for future work. I provide for free (that is well known fact) but my clients will come first each and everytime so anyone providing for free who may have good intentions may at any point be contacted by a paying customer and put to work which means you will be on a lower priority list which people sometimes don't realize. Your free style could be stuck in limbo, for days, weeks and sometime months. Always take this into account when grabbing a free style from someone and more importantly ensure the free style hasn't been stolen or ripped by a commercial styling provider. Many people who provide for free do rip and steal styles or have associates who do it for them and they pass it on.

On another note, Regarding peggy designs I don't think anyone can fault her design abilities but what I read from a passing comment by another in this thread it shows her trustworthiness and reputation are second to none. Thank god for stylers, I could never provide such a service on a constant basis it would drive me crazy.

I am hoping to get Peggy to create me a theme in the very near future - I have a big deal on the verge of going through - the service I have seen from her on other websites, and on her on website are just fantastic... and with me running three forums I can tell her that there will defiantely be future work commissioned if all goes to plan with the original design.

there are a number of great designers out there but there are some that hand you the design and walk off, there are some that you spend weeks contacting without any reply etc etc however for anyone who is looking for designers it is important to do research and find who/what company is best to do the job you have in mind.
