The one flaw in your logic?

Scott's already announced what he'll be doing at Facebook...

So, are you suggesting that Scott is blatantly lying to everyone?

That is a pretty bold accusation (yes, that's what it is, accusing MacVicar of lying to everybody about why he was hired by Facebook), especially for such a trivial topic such as this.

I don't personally know the man, but I do know this. His experience in PHP, as well as his status in the community, far outweighs anything he ever did with vBulletin. vBulletin is minuscule compared to what he's done in the PHP community.

Sometimes companies do not want their employees disclosing stuff.

Maybe Scott does not know what the plans are yet?

Maybe he is there to just work on PHP stuff?

Maybe I'am just speculating on "why" facebook hired someone with Scotts' qualifications.

    lol - that's alot of maybe's.

Scott knows exactly why FB hired him, what his position will be, and what he'll be doing.
I doubt that he would leave his native UK to move to California if he didn't.

If he wasn't supposed to disclose anything, I highly doubt he would of posted some blatant lie publicly on both vBulletin.com and his own Blog.

Exactly my thoughts. He would have kept his mouth shut if he wasn't supposed to disclose anything; not make up a lie in attempts to prevent us from guessing his real job. :P

This thread is LOL funny. It's amazing how some people can take a simple *anything* and try to turn it into something else. :)

I can certainly understand why some people would jump to those conclusions, however, I have a hard time coming to those same conclusions when the facts are there that confirm the exact opposite.

    The facts are:

He's known in the PHP world because of the many talks he gives at PHP conferences around Europe and North America, as well as the work he's done on PHP itself. In comparison, the work he's done on vBulletin, albeit rather large in our eyes, is small.

He's also publicly spoken about what he'll be doing at Facebook in multiple locations. On his personal blog, and on the vBulletin Forums.

Based on this information, I came to the easy conclusion that Facebook hired him for his knowledge in PHP, as well as (possibly) his influence on the PHP World. Any development team would love to have someone of his expertise working alongside them, regardless of who he worked for previously.

That is what an "imagination" is for - you take a little something and have fun with it.

Scott got hired by facebook, ok, so what? I really dont care. Without a little imagination, this thread is about as boring as a rock.

I think Scott got hired for other stuff besides his "PHP" knowledge. Maybe it was his experience with community software, and facebook is a community, right?

Possibly, who know's what the criteria was that enticed facebook to hire him is anyone's guess. Maybe one of his specialist talents is building log cabins and this was what facebook was looking for at the time? People who wear chequered shirts and slack jeans wielding an axe ready to chop down wood? It's all speculation and assumptions.

I'am going to guess that he has a cute butt, a british accent and the person doing the interviews was an american woman that loves the way british men talk.

The PHP programming skills was just an extra perk.
