Main ban reason

In 2.5 years I've only had to ban 1 person who was trolling.

 

Underaged members, mostly. More common than spammers who get by the filter.

 

Spam is defintelly first. Second on your forum has to be ban-evading.

 

Proxy detection and basic captcha filter out most spammers before they can even sign up : )

Not counting spammers (almost all are caught by RBLs and textual confirmation), my #1 reason for people being "put on leave" are persistent personal attacks. My #2 reason is ban evasion, primarily originating from the #1 reason.

 

It's been a very long time since I've had to ban a legitimate user. It's just not something I want to do either. Individuals who are bad usually improve their attitudes a phenomenal amount when they're told by several that they're annoying. It's fantastic stuff for me.

 

Bans has been for spammers,but did ban one member who refused to remove a photo I detested as his signature.It was offensive to me and wanted to keep it PG or G level for my forum.

 

I would kill their signature if that was the only reason...

 

He was also trolling.

Since he refused to change or remove his offensive photo,I consider him not worthy of being in my forum any longer.

Why coddle people who are disrespectful in the extreme?

It depends on your admin style, but yes, combined with trolling, he might deserve a temp ban. However, I try not to just ban people who might have something to contribute.

 

He posted only four times and then vanished when I asked him to remove the offending photo.The postings he posted were not designed for discussion,but to inflame.I gave him 2 weeks to respond and he never did.

That is why I banned him.

Why coddle such people?
