I haven't used MyBB for over a year now, so I'm not really in-touch with it.

The one thing I can say though is that it is inaccurate to make the comparison of free software to commercial/paid software. If somebody migrates from MyBB to vBulletin, it doesn't mean MyBB is bad or is losing its reputation. It probably just means the person has decided to make a larger investment; or they realize their community is on its way to success, so it is even worth making the investment. (For example, it is usually my philosophy to start a new forum on a free script (if you have a budget) such as MyBB. When/if the community shows signs of success, then you should really consider moving to a paid solution such as vBulletin. I admire both MyBB and vBulletin -- but me switching to vBulletin doesn't mean I don't like MyBB...)

On the contrary, when you see users leaving MyBB for other free scripts (SMF, phpBB, etc.) then it may be something to worry about.

Doing multiple actions with a single click, basically. Probably the most straightforward example is comparing SMF's handling of unactivated users with MyBB's. MyBB is... wtf. SMF, you can purge, remind, purge and remind, accept, or accept and remind everyone who signed up more than x days ago with one click.

Some of Drupal's administration and moderation extensions also get quite fancy, though its user control is still a bit clunky.

Well, even if someone finds it more difficult to do some member moderation when compared to other free scripts, that would not be a case of a reputation changing. These are thing that have been the same about MyBB.

I'd say MyBB is the number one software, however, there are currently problems at the support forums. People are being way to harsh, and there seems to be very little sense of community there. Almost every thread in the general chat forums go off-topic and turn into fights.

It's a little pathetic, and it's sad to see this stain such a great script.

    :S A little!?

There are many rude people... specially when it comes to the paid plugins topic, not so much about paid themes.
