Yes I download quite a few fonts, it all depends on what the design requires.

love the lightbulb in the first banner

 

Yeah I wanted something different than a speech/thought bubble ect, so I went for a lightbulb.

I despise this font, but the person requesting the logo wanted it, they also stated the image and colour to use:

I can't remember the font I used, the the style is a gradient overlay using a light blue and dark blue, which were taken from the sites theme. Then I applied an outter glos using the dark blue and adjusted the opacity as needed.

The reflection was even easier, just duplicated the text, flipped it vertically and then dropped the opacity to 30%

 

i always used to use a different method for the reflection:
i used to flip it like you said, but rather than lowering the opacity i used to put a 0% alpha to background colour gradient giving it the effect of it disappearing into the distance, but your idea is better and also much more easier

 

I've used that method too and prefer to combine them, just depends on what look I'm after
