We have 2 admins and 14 supermods on my site. I only add more mods if my mods say they need a new one in a specific area.

You have quite the active community there, Lynne - I can imagine that having such a vast staff team helps out quite a bit!

Many of the forums require little to no moderation. It's just a couple of the main ones that really require that we have Staff around and active. They check every thread in a couple of the forums to make sure that all the required information is provided. So, if they feel they can't handle the load (which really isn't that bad, but we always seem to have a couple mods busy with real life at any one time), then we add another.

I like to try to keep my staff team "slim". It depends on the size of the forum for the exact amount, but you'll probably find I have slight under-amount of staff compared to another forum of similar size.

    About the same.

We have occasional temporary helpers for special occasions - certain kinds of contests or activities. And some permanent helpers in special project areas. They have increased editing powers and access where regular members do not. But not to real 'management' forums, and sometimes only for the duration of the event. I don't really think of these folks as management, although some of the regular members do. But they are a potential field for future mods.

Elliquiy Adult Role Playing - staff listing

Myself, six other divinities - 'high level staff', two 'low level staff', four IRC operators, two wiki administrators, and though they are not staff we have nineteen mentors. That's not counting the number of members working on the Herald and other such projects.

on one forum, 2 admin, one co-admin (hes like a mod with a few small admin permissions), two mods (had a clean out, and removed the two that hadnt visited the forum in a while)

on the second forum, 2 admin, 2 mods

on the other there is 3 admin and 2 mods

generally, another mod will be needed if the forum gets active enough for the mods to need a bit of extra help.

too many staff might be intimidating to members, and the more powers you give to more people the more likely a staff member might fall out with another staff member and then go and delete half the posts or something

    As of currently...

    1 Admin (Myself)
    2 Super Mods
    1 Moderator

So far is a good mix over on my site... I'm basically aiming for 1 moderator/super moderator per forum type which then give me 1 person with knownledge to aid people of that forum type.

It also lighten my load to finsh web pages and site repairs and changes. Like right now it gives me time to vist here and learn more... :D
