I turn notification off. Why do I want emails telling me when someone's posted? My inbox would be huge.

It's nice to get emails on replies on some threads I've posted it, but those are ones I've manually subscribed to.
I like it even better when the reply is in the email, so I don't actually have to visit the site if I don't want to.
This is also nice with PM's

God sake, stop your frigging moaning and just disable the feature then if you don't want them. Jesus, some people here. Is it that hard to spend 30 seconds to 1 minute configuring your profile settings to stop getting them sent?

People here these days will moan just about anything.

He's saying that he does turn it off. As in: "Why would I want e-mails telling me someone posted?".

Maybe you should calm down a bit and actually read the first bit of what you quoted. :D

    I'm the opposite.

I'll enable them when I first join so I'm reminded to come back and keep checking around to see if I like the place.

When I decide I'm gonna stick around, I turn them off and set up some other way to remind me to come (AA, in particular, is one of my home pages in Firefox. :D).

Frequently, I get a weekly notification to a thread where I was the last person to reply. So there's nothing new for me to read, but I don't know that from the notification. Is there a way for you not to send out a notification in that case?

On Lefora we track if a thread is read or unread. We only send out notifications when there are 'unread' replies - when somebody posts after you, and we track if you've come back to read the reply.

Hm, that's odd. They shouldn't be sent if there aren't any new posts in those threads. According to the FAQ:

My thoughts exactly. Users familiarized with vB will not have a problem with either option, as they know where to find/change their own default setting. As a webmaster I would always set it to 'instant' to encourage a faster "flow" of replies in convos that involve new users. 2c :)

I have mine set to on as well. When new members sign up and ask a question these people are not always the computer friendly type. So they may not always bookmark the site. Then they forgot the site where they just posted the question. Then they go else where and ask the question at a new site.

So I leave it on and just tell people how to turn it off.

Ditto. Many new users often do want a quick response, and to be informed of it. And that helps the convo flow as said.

Default option upon registration was changed long before you registered. :)
