I must say, this mod is one of my favorite modifications out there. It's simple and I love it.

He means the "What's New" button in VB4 shows you the threads that are new and you've not contributed to, which is what this mod appears to do for 3.8.x's. I thought this mod just added the line in the welcome area and we had many baffled members when I installed it lol. All sorted now though.

There is a mod by the same developer for VB4 if you want it. I have it running on my 4 and it works just the same.

I think a few people in this thread don't understand either what this modification does or what the default vb features are.

Showing a list of unread posts has been a feature of vBulletin for years.

The mod in question adds a line into the navbar box saying how many unread/new posts there are. vB does not do this by default.

But there doesn't appear to be a way right now of removing certain forums from the notifications. I've had it down to no new posts, and the mod still said that I had 80-some unread posts.

There is an exclude option with a field in which you can enter forum IDs to exclude. ;)

Because then, for the people who do have access to the private forums that are on the exclude list, posts aren't displayed on the Unread Posts page. So it's kind of a useless feature.

At least I now know there are forums I still can't see....
Which ones I do not yet know.

You mean this is not the same as this?

    http://www.adminaddict.net/forum/suggestions-feedback/unread-post-issue-4185/

Meaning there are Unread posts for you that are in forums you don't have access to anymore (e.g., were moved). So, when you get down to No Posts showing, contradicting the number, then just go to Mark All Forums Read. Bingo!

    Am I right?

Indeed, I was aware of that ;) :D

Notifications ? The mod has no notifications, unless you mean the xxx Unread Posts ? Amyway, as pointed out, there is an exclusions list.

Its not useless at all ;) It was requested, mostly by people who wanted to exclude things like news forums that the rss feeder posted in. There is no need to add private forums. If a member has no access to a forum, then it wont count the posts in the unread total anyway.

I was just jabbin' Nick a little.

But, yes, I did mean the notifications area, not emails.

And I've seen it plenty of times where there are no viewable new posts, yet it reads that there are however many new posts, and if I remember correctly, marking all forums read doesn't even take care of it, but I may be wrong on that.

    :)

I think you may be wrong as well.

Its also unlikely that it says there are unread posts if there are not.

Alright folks, I settle this for you.
Here on AA, I get "There are 1 unread posts" All the time. When I click on it, "There are no unread posts" in the new window, but the notification area still says "1 unread post".

Clicking "Mark Forums Read" fixes it until the next time.
