Wubi - Easy to use Ubuntu installer

Have you ever fancied trying out Ubuntu on your system but worried about having complications, well this little program makes the installation extremely simple:

Wubi - Ubuntu Installer for Windows

It allows you to choose whether you want to use Ubunutu, Kubuntu etc and creates a folder on whatever drive you specify for the installation. It allows you to simply switch between your current operating system upon booting and is also very simple to remove if you dont like it.

Ubuntu comes with FF, GIMP and Pidgin a messenger client pre-installed so everything you could ever need is there

Thought I would share this so others can try it who may have otherwise not bothered.

 

Ever used Linux Mint? They released version 7 recently and it is awesome!! Love it, would really like to use it full time, but I depend on Photoshop and Dreamweaver for my job so :/, can only get older versions to work with WINE.

Have you yourself used Wubi? I read all the time about dual-booting, partitions, etc. and it's all Greek to me. I just want something simple and easy, that doesn't screw my machine up. Is that what Wubi is? :lol:

 

That is exactly what it is, very damn simple, honestly a complete idiot could use it

The best thing I find is that it is very easy to remove, just using add or remove programs

Does, wubi create a GRUB bootloader then? but just with added options to remove OS's or something?

That is pretty darn sweet. So its not on a separate partition, and its not running on top of windows like a virtual machine, its somewhere in-between!

Glad youre both liking it I have only tried the Ubuntu install using it and not Kubuntu or Mythuntu I think it is but I am quite sure theyll all work the same. One good thing I like about it is no need for drivers at all

 

Drivers are not usually an issue with most linux distros providing your hardware is generic and nothing special.

Seriously though, try linux mint! its leet^^

What is the setup for Linux Mint compared to Wubi? Or are they totally different things? I'm so lost :speechless: :lol:

 

Linux Mint is a distribution of Linux. Like Debian, openSUSE or Ubuntu. So you could (I guess) install Linux Mint "on top of" Windows using Wubi. But I'm not sure about that. I have tried Wubi, but I'm running Windows 7 and I guess Wubi doesn't like that very much. Didn't work at all.
Oh well, I'll just keep using my VMWare until Wubi is updated to work with Windows 7.
