Nope, my site is too specialized. And does not appeal to a wide group of people like what myspace or face book does.

Nope. Don't have the intention of becoming a MySpace like provider. It looses the personal touch and I don't need the size of market to be profitable like those sites do.

I couldn't agree with Wayne more in regards to a community losing its personal touch.

When one establishes a community, there are two roads that can be taken: creating a community for the fun of it, or creating a community for money (there is a centralized road, but it is one that is seldom traveled). Unfortunately, there are vast amounts of communities on the web today that are there solely for the financial aspect - because of this, a sense of "family" cannot be found. The management team members of these discussion boards tend to be cold, and one of the last things on their mind is to provide the actual memberbase with what they want and/or desire.

Both MySpace and Facebook are enormous (size and popularity-wise). Do you honestly think that the developers and/or management members take a look at each and every profile hosted? I don't even think there's a slim possibility.

I'd never allow my ventures to become like that. I'm in it solely for the fun - I love what I do.

Nope. As most people said, I deliberately chose my site to be somewhat specialised, and sites the size of Myspace only really exist in a very general topic of discussion/social networking. I also like the personal feel, at least somewhat, that many large sites generally lack in a major way.

I prefer the "family atmosphere" with a community and taking the time to introduce myself to all of my forum members and listen to them and reply to their threads - rather than ignore them and think of a nice handy paycheck coming if I grow big enough.

That's a rather broad statement to make. If you can elaborate a little bit, please do (i.e. why are they similar?). :)

I mean Jelsoft and My Space as so much in common
Take the J L F T from Jelsoft and add an MY PAC and re-arrange other letters and it makes the words My Space- coincidence? I think not. lol

This thread is too much. :D

Ak, Jelsoft and MySpace are two entirely separate entities that each run their own individual operation. Both run a proprietary script, but they are in no way related to each other.

Actually if every vBulletin site were folded into a single site Jelsoft would be bigger MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter combined. At last count there are over 500 million registered users on publicly accessible vBulletin powered sites. That is one-third of the world's total internet population. Of course there is some overlap.

However each individual vBulletin powered community is much smaller and personal. If I was trying to replicate MySpace or Facebook, it wouldn't be vBulletin that I would be using. I would use custom software developed in house so that my server architecture can be optimized around it and the site's needs. Not the needs of tens of thousands of other customers.

p.s. You're writing style is annoying to many because it interrupts the flow of reading and makes your posts a lot more difficult to understand.

I don't know if it will happen, but I keep plugging away at it and continue to grow around 20% a month.

I figure the email site has the best chance of becoming something great over the years.
