    Reporting post sends an email.

What if no one is around to get those emails that can do something about the offending person? Bigger sites that are always active with lot's of moderators but they are doing other things at the moment.

Example would be right this minute on vB.com, it is midnight on the east coast of the usa. He has been reported multiple times but people need to sleep.

Is is catastrophic to leave that type of BS up for 6 hours while people are asleep?

edit - someone took care of the vB.com issue, but still the question is still valid. Can the spam live on the forum for a little while and cause no harm (viagra, etc). Everyone knows it is spam.

The spam can live. I think users can spot spam pretty easily and just ignore it until someone gets up and takes care of it.

Can the "report post" be set to email all admins and mods on your forum?

Interestingly enough, reported content is almost immediately reviewed here at AdminAddict - seeing as there is always at least one of us (administrators) online, it's easy for us to deal with such issues swiftly.

Eventually even the AA staff will have to take a potty break

I just remembered that I had set up reported posts starting new threads on my forum. That is a nice feature. I don't check email too often.

Adding on to what Chris said, the e-mail notification of reported posts was becoming annoying, because we are usually online the minute the report comes in, so we have it taken care of before the e-mail can even get to us.

But you are right in that we will eventually need to take a potty break (but we've been at it for almost a month now! :P). That's what moderators are for though. :)

Regardless, as Lynne said, people can spot it fairly easily, depending on the community. Webmaster forums like this, and vBcom, it's not an issue. But on a very family-friendly site, like mine, it's really not a good idea, which is why we require the first post of all new members to be validated by a moderator before being posted. :)

I toyed with the idea of setting up a special email account for such emergencies and using some kind of ambient indicator to glow or flash when a new email arrived in that account. (Unfortunately there would have been a monthly fee to use that feature, so I didn't try it.)
