Since there was a thread about wich free forum software that is your favorite i thougt i create one that you can tell wich software is your favorite.

It doesn't have to be forum software it can be other CMS system like Joomla or Wordpress to.

I'm quite fond of WordPress - I've been using it for years and have never thought of using something else. I'm particularly impressed with the current stable release (the dashboard, more specifically).

This is a tough poll. :p I love vBulletin and WordPress - I don't know how they can be compared, really. Perhaps turning this into a multiple-selection poll would be something to consider?

Like Chris, I don't use anything other than WordPress for blogging and often for a CMS as well.

Well like it say it is your favorite and there should only be 1 favorite :D

Myself love vBulletin the most, I don't use blogs for myself but wordpress is very nice software.
But vBulletin is at the top right now.

    Should be multiple choice.

I really like Wordpress as an application. It is very versatile and can fulfill a lot of uses with little to no code modifications. Uses like Blog, CMS, eCommerce, photo gallery, video blog, etc... Out of the box, its the best single user blog software on the internet hands down. Others simply don't compare because they don't have the community behind them. If you include a few addons and don't insist on using pages for content, you have one of the easiest to use and scalable CMS platforms on the internet today.

For community software with multiple registrations, I stay with vBulletin. I have tried the others and they simply don't compare. Even if I visit someone else's site and they are using phpBB, Invision or any other alternative, I can't seem to be interested in participating. From the interface to the workflow, I just like vBulletin.

Drupal is also a strong CMS contender but you need to spend a lot of time programming things on your own. Without modules, it is very basic in nature. With modules there is still the need to program PHP if you want to customize it. The biggest issue with Drupal is that they do not guarantee backwards compatibility between major versions. This means that the community is slow to adopt new versions and update resources which requires even more programming on your part. If I had 30 hour days and 8 day weeks, than Drupal would be a great solution.

I know what you mean, Wayne. It is indeed hard to participate when the website is using a software script that is less-than-fantastic visually. Just seeing phpBB causes me to cringe.

I think most of you know my thoughts in regards to phpBB, so I'll refrain from re-stating them.

But Wayne, you certainly are right. Interest in a community is just lost when you don't like the platform it's using.

I have actually seen some phpBB and Invision sites that have been folded into beautiful designs. However people never want to seem to fix the workflow flaws. Now don't get me wrong, vBulletin has a fair share of workflow flaws as well but you get used to them if people don't fix them.

Mainly I am talking about things like phpBB's breadcrumbs. They are in a completely illogical place and difficult to use. The redirects after posting as well. Just take me to the thread and if I want to go elsewhere than I will click. Don't make me wait or try to decide. Can't bothered with that. And the editor looks like something out of the 90s. Its practically ancient in the age of the web. The screen is fairly cluttered as well, at least on the sites that I visit semi-regularly.

On the other hand it seems like IPB has taken almost all modern functionality and tossed it out. I like features myself not minimalistic featureless boards. The features may well be there but not worth it to go digging for them. Though I have never found a way to create a printable version of an IPB thread.

Can't honestly say that I have ever seen a MyBB based site so can't comment on that package.

Now like I said vBulletin has its faults as well. Tables, I am really beginning to hate them. They are so inflexible. I can't wait until 4.0 and its elimination of them. Personally, I think they should have been eliminated in 3.6 (and that version subsequently released as 4.0) but can understand the need for backwards compatibility as well. However I will fully embrace our new CSS Overlords in vBulletin 4. vBulletin also relies on dropdowns too much and hides too many features from the user. Something that should be looked at. Though it does relieve clutter it can be confusing to new users. Also, and I can't believe I am saying this since I suggested the current format, vBulletin's breadcrumbs are tired and lazy. Of course when I suggested it, I didn't realize we would be using the same style half a decade later.

CSS will make it a lot easier to embrace new trends and cycles in web design within a site. Though you don't see this in phpBB and IPB site which are both table-less at the moment. That is curious by itself but another topic.

No software is perfect though or else there wouldn't be any variety. However, I already have some ideas for vBulletin 4.0 and its style including a vBulletin themework but more on that later.

I could answer the majority of IPB questions, it's easy to create a print version of a thread. It's in the Thread Options. :)

Oh, I voted for IPB. :)

I have been an avid vBulletin user for a few years now. Like some people have already said, unfortunately I cannot bear to post on a forum that does not use vBulletin, regardless of how great the forum may be. :( I have, however, had the urge to try IPB very recently for some reason.

Not that it can really be compared to vBulletin, I also love WordPress. It has a great administrator interface and is very powerful and relatively easy to use after you install it.

Judging by the poll results, we need to reach out to some forum software communities beyond vB. Let's get some more IPB and MyBB users here... Boss and Justin need some buddies! :p

Yes, yes we do. And I believe Chris is a user of Invision as well, I might be wrong but that's the general hit I got off of him.

He's had his fair share of both. It's hard to tell with him anymore... I think he really moved to IPB. So much for staying true to vB, CHRIS.

He made the right move! :P

I actually joked about having an IPS plush toy on another forum Nick and I are on and one of the moderators contacted me asking if there really is a plush toy. I can't imagine what kind of toy IPS would make considering the company doesn't really have a mascot, unless it's Keith. LOL

I use vB for my forums, tho my interest in MyBB has been peaked recently.
Wordpress is is awesome. The only blogging solution I will use. And I, too, have used it in the past for my sites' homepage. It's incredibly easy to style WP to coordinate with your vB style.

Vb by far is the forum software of choice. I have tried other forum softwares and have come back to vb every time. I just can't get used to anything else.

Wordpress is a great all around product. between those two though I might still have to lean towards vb.

Funny thing, in the paper today there was a good size write up about open source software programs, drupal being one of them. It said with the economic times we're in right now more and more companies are moving to open source platforms simply because of cost effectiveness. They said that they also felt with people all over the world working on the product they were getting better software. Plus they could do anything they wanted to do with it. Of course, I'm sure this has been well known for some time but it was just an interresting read either way :)

MyBB, though vBulletin would be the next and only favorite.
