What do you do to get the fever go away?

I've had a cold for like the last 2 1/2 weeks now and its killing me..

I've got like a 100.5 temperature..

gone to doctor, taking nyquel, tylenol, advil, sprite, 7up, and lots of rest and nothing helps any thoughts on what i could try..

 

Prepare yourself a mug of herbal (or lemon) tea. Both are very soothing.

I can't really tell you because I've only been sick in any way a couple of times in my life.

Beechams or some paracetamol crushed into hot water with some lemon juice added too!

 

100.5 isn't that high. I'd ride that out unless it goes higher. At that point I take first Ibuprofen 400 mg, then 3 hours later take the same dose of Tylenol. Alternate every 3 hours. But like I said, as long as it's under 101, I ride it out. A fever is your body's way of trying to burn off an infection.

I take Coricidin or Alka Seltzer capsules for a cold. Usually knocks it right out of me.

Overdosing on acetaminophen can cause a fever. This is the pain reliever in Tylenol and NyQuil. Remove both of these from your regimen and see if the fever goes away. If you take two Tylenol every four hours and a dose of NyQuil every eight than you are over the maximum recommended dosage and technically overdosing. If you double up with other cold medicines, they could have acetaminophen in them as well.

I actually suggest cutting out the Tylenol and Advil for the next 24 hours. Use Aleve (naproxen) to combat the aches and pains. Only two pills will do it and your liver will be much happier.

For colds, I just take two Aleve and drink hot lemon and ginger tea with honey.

 

I like a little vodka and orange juice - mixed 1/2 and 1/2 in a juice glass. Maybe even mix in a peppermint. It sure beats the over the counter cough medicine.

 

I would be on the floor after that... forget the cold.

I hardly take any sort of medicine (other than I've been injesting large quantites of Orajel here lately because my dentist can't get me in for a week), but any way, lots of fluids, like water will help. Wash your hands constantly, cary around some hand sanitizer and use it any time before and after touching your face.

Try to lay in bed a day or two with some nice hot showers.

Thats always cured my colds for what its worth, though you usually don't get a fever with the common cold (the cold is a virus, and infections are usually responsible for fevers) so you may need to hit up a doctor and get a prescription if cutting all the drugs out like Wayne suggested doesn't work.

 

I sleep it off. Well, lots of liquids and sleep. Thank god I'm only sick every once in a while , and it's gone within a day.

 

Exactly, you would forget all about your cold. A little whiskey help me sleep a lot better then that cough medicine stuff.

Oh yea, I forgot, some honey goes a long way also. Some good hot peppermint tea with some honey mixed it - that is just right.

 

Im not actually doing anything to get rid of my sickness. It sucks, massive headache atm.
