There's a lot of discussion, but do we actually have an estimated release date for it? Considering I use some features like profile customisation which may be brought back, I would be quite interested in maybe using vBulletin 4 then...

Hopefully they don't tell us, and they release it when all of the bugs are fixed, and not a minute sooner. You know, unlike the whole vB 4 Gold failure.

Yeah, I would expect them to fix the majority of the bugs system wide first before they even think about throwing 4.1 out at it's customers.

It'll be interesting to see what comes of the 4.01 and 2 releases before they start tackling features. Priorities first is to fix the bugs.

You know how unsurprised I'd be if they do add new features in the first few releases and continue to postpone the bug-fixin'?

I really can't see them doing that. If, by a long shot that they did I can see them loosing even more customers and this will eventually kill vbulletin off that I am sure of.

The biggest priority here is to fix the gold release and tackle the remainder of those issues (if people complain about not getting 4.1 fast enough) they should be ignored. The community at this point shouldn't be pestering vbulletin solutions to add features when you have a somewhat dodgy release that they call gold. Heck, most of the major scripts haven't even been updated so I can't see any benefits from a rushed release or a skipped bug release if that does happen.

We'll see. I expect the worse so you never become disappointed no matter how much they decorate their words their actions speaks a different story at the moment. Anyway, I'm not getting involved in another vb thread, it's depressing and I become terribly unproductive. :D

IMO vB 4.1 doesn't even need to enter IB's mind until they address the current version. Once they get the bugs fixed in 4.0 then they should start thinking about the next version. I do hope however they will be more open with the beta this time though.

You know, 4.1 would mean that they have resolved the bugs and issues and added more features...

    Not so fast.

Typically a gold version means that you've fixed the alpha/beta/RC bugs and that the product is ready to use, suffering from minor bugs that only mass usage will uncover. IB clearly feels an exception to that rule of thumb, so they pretty much schedule when the bugs will be fixed to the day while allowing the issues to persist.

Software often gets a free pass, but think about Ford and GM if they released new cars where the windows didn't roll down or the lights didn't come on. They'd go out of business. Minor bugs are one thing, but new features advertised on a website that don't really work amounts to false advertising.

That's not something IB would tell you. That's for sure.

Maybe I should have said 4.0.1 rather than 4.1, never the less, I'm curious to why people are expecting some massively improved release relatively shortly.

4.0.1 is to be released the week of Jan 7. Now what that means I have no idea since normal weeks start on Sunday or Monday so they should have said the week of Jan 4th. But I guess with the time line IB choose it could be today or any day now till the 14th. Being they have had this habit as of late to deliver on Friday maybe it will be tomorrow.

4.0.1 is scheduled for this week, but if I recall someone at vB Germany dropped the ball and said it's now scheduled for next week.

Don't take my word for it though, this week was official from IB. Next week is a rumor I heard, that I can't confirm due to language barriers. :P

One needs to also remember, that if the release is happening today or tomorrow, they are doing releases based on the PST timezone. So it will come much later than we are used too.
