I am just curious to see what type of CMS you use on your vbulletin site, if you use one. I have used vbportal CMS and have for years. I found that it was a bit hard to use at first because there are so many layers of control, but over the years it has become easier to work with.

As a side note, i don't think vbportal CMS, sells their software anymore. I am not sure what happened, but last time i looked, it was for sale (The site and the right to the software). I had even hoped at one time that vbulletin/internet brands would buy it and then build it up from where the old coders left off.

I am not sure of all the different cms's available, so i only listed a few in the poll. (I know people say that vbadvanced isn't a cms, but it does let you control content from the forums, which helps users navigate a site.

I found vBPortals to be clunky and counter-intuitive personally, good software though, just took to long to figure it out and how to do things.

vBAdvanced is nice, but almost every site that is just a forum uses it.

    Wordpress = win, imo.

    Joomla, never did like :D

I recently started looking at word press and joomla. I know i have a huge learning curve with new software, but i found both to be kind of hard to work with. As you can see here, i managed to get joomla live, but that was it......hehehehehe Welcome to the Frontpage ...I couldn't get the images and stuff to look right. I ran into the same thing with wordpress, i got it to work, but i couldn't get it to look what i thought would look appealing on my site.

Only two of those are CMS applications in my opinion. Those are Joomla and Wordpress. The other two are content aggregators and portals. Out of the choices listed, only Wordpress is viable in my opinion.

Reported post for being oblivious to the obvious. (totally kidding man)

Yeah, I haven't seen too many vB admins use Drupal. I was kinda shocked I think, but from my other thread it makes sense b/c it requires a great deal of php knowledge as Wayne Luke points out. When you want to get like 3 levels deep....holy crap you better bring some mops.

    Good poll though.

But, really now I'm thinking, I see that many people here are not shy from coding their sites, either design, plugins, mods, etc. So, Drupal should be right up their alley with the same fervor? I don't know, maybe I'm missing something fundamental in the connection, Drupal is a more than full featured CMS, customization up the wazoo...and quite frankly runs faster than Joomla, furthermore, should compete now w/ the new vb4 CMS. ;)

It all comes down to the choice of programming your site or managing your site. Programming the site will not have the net returns on investment that managing your site and adding content will. It is simple as that. Your time is worth money and you'll never recover the time spent.

that is very true wayne. I find taking the time to relearn new software to be a bit of a pain. I am not very savvy when it comes to coding, and i have found for me anyways, that vbportal (being php) and vbulletin (being php), fairly easy to work with. The others i posted above, besides vbadvanced, have been hard for me to work with.

I concur w/ your first sentence.

For the remainder, that programming effort might be nil given the person is an expert or quite handy. Effectively, washing out the investment separation. I can go hire a Drupal expert to program the site w/ said CMS and expect a return on my investment on that, right?

My only point is that Drupal is a CMS and should be up on the list. Everyone listed has its pros/cons and necessary technical requirements.

I used to use SubDreamer. Then I found CMSMade Simple (no front-end users) and haven't really looked back. For personal use I use WordPress but keep it away from vB.

I've never used anything like that, so it's going to be real interesting for me.

Ive been needing a CMS for awhile but i just couldnt get WP to work well with the site, which is why Vb4 was an important upgrade for us. I review a alot of high performance car parts and have been stuck doing a bastardized review using Vb Magazine, which is a major headache to work with. After shelling over $200 for this plugin, the only thing i can use to make it work correctly is its multipage plugin, which takes one large forum posts and allows you to break it up in sections.

The bridge for WP has just been a nightmare for us. I have a few hundred dollars in custom templates i will never be able to use for WP now.

I use non-integrated wordpress with comments disabled. Inside of each post in wordpress is a link going to a forum thread where people can post comments.

That does a whole lot of things:
    1. simple & bullet proof
    2. drives traffic straight to your forums where you want them, and you already have measures in place to keep things in order
    3. No need to keep track of word press comments
    4. People need to take the extra step to click on a link, which would cut down on the simple 'thank you!' comments, so people don't have to wade through unnecessary posts. An example might be a vborg plugin with hundreds of comments designed for 3.6.x, and trying to figure out how well it works, and if it still works for 3.7.x, if a little extra step was necessary that may trim some comments. I suppose if there were a pop-up stating 'I really appreciate you feedback, but lets keep this a Q & A!' would work in that case.
    5. at this time I have a read only forum with links to other forums which requires that little 'extra' effort to go find, which cuts down the on the fluff comments like #4

    Nice Kevin.

I use none of the above, but another software.

joomla is nice, but there is a learning curve. I am looking more into it for future projects.

wordpress, is a nice and simple. I'm planning on using it for some smaller personal type sites.

I've never understood how to use wordpress as the CMS - so i use vbAdvanced. It was far more simple to set up.

I have never been a fan of showing information already in the forum on a portal. I always use Wordpress with a special bridge to enable vBulletin forum members to comment on wordpress articles under the same username.

I like your thinking. I also took a look at your site, I like the way it is set up.

My guess is your head is full of ideas how to possibly use v4 suite, mine is.
