What is your preferred antivirus program?

I've mentioned this several times before in this forum, but I prefer AVG.

Having a good antivirus program that updates often is necessary for having a secure computer that won't be riddled with viruses. A bad program will make your computer much slower, will miss viruses and will be very annoying to use.

What is your favourite antivirus? Mcafee is pretty bad in my opinion.

 

I use norton internet security on my computer, it is pretty powerful and works like a charm, update packages are somewhat big although but it is still a plus point IMO. the bigger is your virus definition database the more secure your PC is. For those who are not very much familiar with those technical words, It may be somewhat challenging to configure it according to their need but 'STILL' it is good for me

 

I don't like norton because it is expensive, in several ways. The literal cost of the service is very expensive, also it takes a huge toll on your CPU and bandwidth, with the oversized patches.

Plus the fact that they ship annoying trial software with popups of all kinds, that come with your downloads and computers

 

Yeah I agree with you on the points that it is expensive, and it uses heavy system and bandwidth resources but they dont ship any trial software. I'm using this from past few month but I never came across such annoying situation. you'd contact with the support team if you encounter such problems.

 

Trial software does not come with Norton, but I'm talking about how they ship trial versions of Norton security with other programs that I download, which just puts me off a little bit.

Haha what great discussion seems you guys realy worried use Quick heal and mcafee they are also good and cheap...

 

My favorite antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials is free and I think that is complete and is not full of advertising like avira.

 

I like Microsoft Security Essentials because it feels really lightweight compared with any other antivirus and it's free. But my favorite antivirus is Kaspersky. I think is the best commercial antivirus available. It does give a strong protection against viruses and other malware, it does not slow down the computer like Mcafee or Norton do and it does not cost much. For me Kaspersky is the best.

 

AVAST! ye mateys.

I've tried several of the popular ones and Avast is the one that has annoyed me the least, while still doing a good job.

 

For those who still use Windows OS.
Two very good and FREE AV programs are " Malwarebytes" and " Threatfire"

One of the bad security risks are Keyloggers. Fortunately there is also an excellent free program both for Windows and Macs called " Sophos"
Look for, download and install the "anti-root kit" This will detect and REMOVE keyloggers.

Macs will not fall victim to windows virus, but like any system are not 100% safe.

If you need more security but are short of cash, then you can use one of the FREE Linux OS like Ubuntu, very fast, use very little resources and are a Lot safer than Windows.

 

I used AVG for several years and then when I upgraded my computer to windows 8 I tried Microsoft security for a while.

something happened that I now forget and I switched back to AVG.

 

I second this. I really like Avast.

 

Nice advice. If you want to get rid off Windows virus use Linux. But as you say about Mac, Linux isn't exempt to virus and malware but it is far more secure than Windows.

AVG Free and MalwareBytes; I don't think I've ever used anything else because they've both done the trick and kept me secure.

 

I was using Sophos before because I'm using my brother's desktop at the moment and he had it ages ago from University.

But now that he's left for work, I just go avast, and it seems to be pretty good so far, the best one I've used for the moment.

 

Continually using a preferred anti-virus product is really not the best idea because the effectiveness of these products is quite fluid. You really want to review your options on a regular basis by visiting reputable sites that conduct large scale tests. I've found http://www.av-comparatives.org/ to be quite a useful resource in that respect.

I'd also avoid anecdotal evidence and recommendations. For example McAfee is not very highly regarded but a couple of years ago it proved to be the most effect product at stopping malware.

I currently use a variety of products to keep my network virus free including MSE and Malwarebytes run on demand.

 

Yes The bad guys are continuously developing new ways to do their deeds.
A good AV program needs to be constantly updating to keep abreast of this.

 

I use a Mac at work and we use Symantec. For my personal use though I use Avast for my PC. It is free and once registered, it can forget about it for a year. I haven't had any bad viruses ruin my PC yet. So, if it ain't broken don't fix it :-)
