As an admin yourself, what if one of your members said "[****][****][****][****] you" AND "you're a little bitch" to you and he meant it?

What would you do to that member?

But wait, what if that member was a long-term active and regular poster who got along well with other members.

He would be punished the same as if he said those things to another member. I don't really believe in "disrespect a member and get an infraction; disrespect an administrator and get banned".

In this case, it would warrant an infraction for disrespecting other members.

A simple [****][****][****][****] you wouldnt result in a permanent ban, an infraction first but it usually results in them saying even more back and leading to a ban but they get their chances. If they started personally insulting me, for example saying this and that about my family etc then yes a permanent ban would be in order.

3day Ban depending on past infractions.

Re: What if someone said "[****][****][****][****] you" to you?

    My Rules state:

Harassment (Flaming) - Harassment will not be tolerated. The punishment for harassment will vary from mild, to severe depending on the situation at hand, offenses committed, and other such factors. Racism, ageism, sexism, discrimination, segregation, and such offensive manners are also considered harassment and under no conditions will they be tolerated. This includes offensive language that is directed at a member, or members of our community. There is to be no foul, stereo-typical, or abusive language allowed. Offensive language is permitted, but still discouraged, if it is not directed at a member of our community. Putting someone down, or treating them differently according to their beliefs or religion is not allowed. Instigating or aggravating someone is also unacceptable. If you receive any type of harassment via private message, please contact a staff member immediately.
Note: Harassment is the same as flaming.

Depending on how bad it was, highest is 7 Infraction Points..

For this example, then 2, if they have never received an infraction then its a warning (basically a chance) then it would be an infraction.

Is the member a man or woman?

Male - you might like getting scr**ed in the rear end, but it sounds pretty painful to me. I think I'll just stay with my wife.

Woman - my wife is very jealous, she does not like other women coming onto me. You better hope she does not see this.

I'd give them infraction, 5 is the limit, then it comes to a ban. I haven't even posted rules on my forum yet lol.

Re: What if someone said "[****][****][****][****] you" to you?

Depends on what context it was used in.

Joking = lolol whatever haha joke1!!

Meant it = I'd probably ask why they being a jerk wad, and posting here if they have a problem. Then let them leave, or if they continue to be a problem just move them to miserable users

I hate my staff being abused, and myself, it annoys me. I have two very specific rules in place to ensure that they get the maximum punishment, no matter who they are if they abuse us.

    and

Pretty much covered. I have banned, and will continue to ban offenders.

Re: What if someone said "[****][****][****][****] you" to you?

All about context really. Can't really say because my wife and I have used those words at each other before just having fun and goofing around. We have also said things in anger during arguments that hurt worse without using those words. Of course in the end we made up.

But it is still about context. I assume you meant in anger but without knowing the entire situation, one can react and ban them or they can "proact" and take care of the situation. Banning doesn't actually solve issues. It just buries them and lets them fester.

I think thats right, but i also think a three day ban should be in order since if they are disrespecting you then any one can disrespect you no matter n00b or long term member. I think its just not good and if you turn the other way it will just grow among the members.

Interesting tags on this thread, should be interesting to see what google does with that.

That is exactly what happened to me. Not ban them but change many of their permissions to make life not fun.

    Bingo! .

I make it a pertinent point to ensure that the bar for attacking me and (with certain exceptions) my staff it higher than it is for normal members.

Re: What if someone said "[****][****][****][****] you" to you?

Before I address this question, I have to point out the following about "you're a little bitch." I have been to forums that are fine with flaming and vulgarity, and have rules on proper debate (e.g., no broken record tactics), but I have never seen anyone refer to another as "a little bitch." And I have seen some really nasty attacks. That said, "a little bitch" seems to go beyond your standard fare flaming, and borders or enters vendetta and personal seething hatred that is irreconcilable. In other words, his behavior becomes abusive, as part of his purpose at the forum now is to make the experience of his target as miserable as possible. That is just not acceptable. No matter how much you flame a member at even the nastiest forums I've gone to, you still couldn't follow him around with a vendetta, and your flames had to be completely relevant to and supplement points in a debate.

Also, there reached a point where common sense took over and someone's motives become apparently motivated by intent to abuse rather than address legitimate issues as decided by the opening post of a topic. All this reminds me of an anecdote I read in Jon Krauker's Under The Banner of Heaven. The anecdote was about two Mormon fundamentalists who murdered a young woman and her baby and were, obviously, brought to court for it. However, one of the suspects, upon figuring (wrongly) that the judge is gay, treated him with the most despicable behavior, hurling insults for the sake of insults, and refusing to maintain even the slightest pretext of fairness. Such a person should find himself banned for being unable to work with people.*

Now, I have seen "[****][****][****][****] you" said numerous times, mostly when a member passionately takes issue to a particular point in a debate. To have that said to me would be a bummer, but I wouldn't really care. However, if by "[****][****][****][****] you" the member means "I'm not going to follow your rules," that's something else entirely. Such a person who chooses to make you unable to work with him cannot remain a member of the forum because he refuses to be treated fairly, and to treat others fairly. If a member chooses not to respect me, that is his prerogative, but my forum is in a sense my home, and so he must obey my dictates, and he must be able to work with me (which means not being abusive).

Of course, that is not to say that he cannot take issue to what I say. Along those lines, I don't often moderate at all; most of the time, simply working things through by a private one-on-one is all it takes. I always act as diplomatically as possible, and always invite and remind members to post any criticisms in the feedback topic, or to voice them via the private channels. Finally, my forum has been around since 2004, but only two members were banned. One member demanded to be banned or he would do everything he can to earn it, and another made it his mission to undermine the forum (even so, he was allowed to remain for years, all the while building up his own case against him).

    -edit-

    * I should also point out, too, that even at those forums that allow flaming, people such as the gay basher I described would be guilty of bigotry, and could find his stay short. I have a related rule at my forum:

I'd almost welcome it after some of the other insults that have been lobbed my way.

But I agree, there would not be a more significant punishment for being rude to staff than other members.

My forums have a very strict no bashing rule that results in a 5 point infraction and a week ban. SO if they said this to an admin or a regular member it wouldnt matter. The same thing would happen to them.
