Hey guys, I think I may have the 'Vundo virus' - Norton told me a few days ago that it found a Trojan and protected me against it, but I've been noticing porn ads and slow speeds on my computer...anyone else ever have it/know how to remove it? I've tried 'VundoFix' and 'Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware' without success.

The fundo does not run porn ads - it sounds like you have spyware / adware installed.

Go to download.com and get adware and malware bytes - install both, update, and do a full system scan - but not at the the same time.

Do you have a hardware firewall on your internet connection, such a home router? If so, do you have any ports open? Because the fundo is a network spread virus. The only way for a computer to get infected is if its not using a firewall. Or if the firewall has certain ports open.

Computer A gets infected, it then starts scanning the network for unpatched computers. It it finds an open system with no firewall and it has not been patched, the virus is pushed to the other computer.

Also, if your doing regular windows updates, the exploit that the fundo virus uses should have been patched a long, long time ago.

If your using internet explorer, switch to firefox. This eliminates activex exploits that some drive by infects use.

The VundoFix should have worked. I have so many friends and relatives that have acquired this virus and they always call me of all people to fix it. So I have the VundoFix on my flash drive for easy use.

Go back to wikipedia and find out what security update from microsoft stops the vundo. Then go to updates.microsoft.com, look at your history and see if that update was installed and when.

That will tell you "if" and "when" your computer could have been infected.

Microsoft released a fix several months ago that will stop the vundo. If your computer has been updating like its supposed to be, then its HIGHLY doubtful that your ssytem is infected.

and if your on a private network, with a hardware firewall, its doubtful that your system is infected with the vundo virus.

I don't know what it does or doesn't do, but I haven't heard of sensitive data being exploited.
