It looks like 4.2 isn't far off and I'm going have to begrudgingly update to get further security patches as 3.8 EOL's when 4.2 is released. I figure I should update to the suite as sooner or later I'll want to use the CMS.

My question is this: Can I ignore the CMS and use the regular old index page like 3.8 has until I'm ready to work with the CMS?

    Thanks,
    Dan

If you're asking if you can disable it the answer is yes.

Check out IPB or XenForo et al if you're not happy with vB4. Don't be scared to switch it up..

I'm not scared of switching up. :) Before I coughed up the dough for 3.5 switching between smf, phpbb, mybb, etc was practically a monthly occurrence. My members are used to vBulletin and they damn near revolt at even a new style. It's more the addons though; From my research IPB doesn't have a post thanks hack anywhere near as nice as vBulletin. All the rest I can do without but if I were to drop Post Thanks I'd have a mutiny on my hands.

Does that by any chance intergate with FB?

I know some of my older members wouldn't care for like vs. thanks but they can live with it. :p

no, but you can import all thanks data into the like system
and you can rename the "like" if you want.

I 'like' that idea. :p. If I decide to go the vBSEO route I'll be in touch for a link.

Just an update: I did purchase the vB 4 forum license upgrade yesterday and decided to upgrade to the suite I'll be paying the update price once my bank transfer clears.

My original plan was to move to /forums with the upgrade leaving the root open to a WP install then I realized how much of a pain in the arse it would be to match the vB and WP styles.

Well it depends on what styles you want to use.
I don't really like the CMS as it is, wordpress will bring you more search traffic, that's for sure.

Yah, I'd rather go with WP for the frontend. However it'd be a headache to find matching styles. When I do get a custom theme I'd have to get someone who themes both WP and vB. The same graphics could be used without issue it's just the extra expense and headache of finding someone I like who does both.

I use vBulletin 4 - I have the CMS as well, I use the blogs feature the most though.
