Anyone got the low down on any new things dealing with caching? For instance, 3.x series has datastore caching with xCache which I use. Will 4.0 take even more advantage of software like xcache?

According to the vB Developer Chat held yesterday, there haven't been many changes to the Datastore system.

There are plans, however, to do so in future versions.

Did they expand on versions? As in 4.1,4.2 or make us all pay for it in 5.0?

No, they didn't, however the focus of the chat was on the 4.x series.
