Hi everybody. I am new here, so please forgive me if this would be the wrong forum to post this.

I want to start a forum website and I dont really know much about websites. I have read that vbulletin is the easiest software to use, so I decided not to waste anytime with the other software and go with vb.

    2 questions...

First, how much do you charge for putting up ads on your forum website (monthly). I am not talking about the cheap google ads. I have seen new forums charge $100 dollars a month, that have been running for only half a year. Is this price realistic?

Second, what are the disadvantages of buying a vb license from another member on this forum? Or from anyone else?

    Please post your thoughts/suggestions.

    Thanks!

I dont think you would get anywhere near $30 per month for a large banner in a top spot when you begin.

Then again the price should really be based on how much traffic your site gets at whatever months old and where it is located.

On our teen forums we charge $65 for a sitewide large (728px x 90px) banner per month and ours has been going for a year and three months now.

I dont see any disadvantages from buying a second hand license at all, the only problem with it are those who are scammers.

Probably because this thread is in the Misc. section which people don't check as much as the content-related sections. Also because two unrelated questions are being asked in a single thread. Try dividing them into two different threads, in the proper sections, and you'll most likely get better results. :D

    Nick,

You are probably right. I tend to do that a lot - atleast in the forums I do.

Make a post in a topic-specific forum and you will have your 1 post. :)

General forums like this one don't add to your post count.
