vBSEO is it worth it?

I am thinking about buying vBSEO, but I am really not to sure. I wanted to here from people who have it, do you benefit from it? would you recommend it? And does it take up much server resources for you?

The main question I want to ask is is it worth it? I know some people swear by it and some don't.

 

before vbulletin 4 I'd say go for it
after vbulletin 4, I'd so consider using the built in features of vb

also depending on the size of the forum, vbseo will severally slow your site down (that's why we dropped it on general-forums a year ago)
At the time GF was getting some good viral traffic from social networks, vbseo was creating such a load (along with everything else) that the site wasn't loading. I'd disable vbseo and the site would instantly load quicker.

 

Well, I think i'd listen to Brandon. I was never to keen on using it, since it was costly and I kinda did my job with Zoints seo anyway. It really depends on how much money you can invest in your site in the end. If the price is not putting you off and you think it's worth the effort, you can try. I do have a client who's using it for some forums and not for others, so it might be more than just the script. Maybe the niche also matters and the resources you have. If this will mean a serious load on your server, it can cause more harm than good

 

I was a license holder of vB3, and vB4, and likewise, I have been a vBSEO license holder since before vB4 was released.

I echo what Brandon said: vBSEO is worth it only if you plan to use vB3.8. As vB4 is a mess already for SEO, so vBSEO doesn't even help matters. A new site with vB4/vBSEO renders the site worthless. Trust me.

MW2Boards was powered by vB4/vBSEO - at the latest versions.

What's worse is that vBSEO is server intensive no matter the size of forum you have. CODForums was struggling with pageloads, server stress, and to add to that, vB4 is server intensive already, so put two and two and you have an idea of how bad it is.

Simply: Use vBSEO only with vB3. If they tell you to optimize your SEO with the plugin, do it.

I have never been embarrassed with a software like the combination of vB4/vBSEO. CODForums had a lot of members and posts, and vBSEO didn't even help along the pace.

 

I got to echo what has been said here, if I knew then what I know now I would have never installed vBSEO. Its a server resource HOG.

I would love to remove it but I would lose everything on the search engines. I run NGINX so i can't just change the .htaccess (which NGINX does not use) so all my links would not work if I got rid of it.

 

Are they stored in the server config file, here are the rules I used when removing vbseo.

I've never used it. I've always been a fan of the URLS that vBulletin offers, and plus, you can edit forum title's, descriptions, and add more content to make your community unique over the others. I don't stand by vBSEO, but I do stand by vB4.

I tried not to use htaccess much but every time I had not used it [er, removed it], vBSEO [er, vB4] treats every page as an error.

A config file is required with each vBSEO installation.
