I didn't know it had been leaked.

I deplore the idea that someone the company trusted, who signed a legally binding NDA, has gone off and breached that trust and that NDA.

    Reprehensible.

One problem with this topic... by definition, we don't know who's on the alpha testing team for vBulletin... so except maybe the two or three people who're either staff or made it clear they were accepted, who is there to bet? On another note... I've got to admit, I kinda like how someone made a live site based on vBulletin 4, regardless of the legality. Perfect for getting screenshots of vBulletin 4, and decent enough for the millions who weren't accepted to know what they'd be buying into.

It is a little hard for me to speculate.

Someone made a mistake and did not password protect the directory
They are asleep now in the far east (gmt +8)
someone trying to mess with stock prices
someone upset with vb and did it intentionally
someone inside vb getting some giggles, or wants to get some reactions to layout early
someone out right grabbed a copy that should not have

    No way to tell

vBulletin Solutions knows who the install belongs to and is handling it.

Good. I abhor such breaches of trust.

So bets are still on. Whomever is kicked off the team will be a highlighter of the guilty party.

I also betting once he/she is kicked off he/she'll be spilling their guts. ;)

Yup mark, trust is earned though and it begs the question that even the alpha selectee process was a bodge job.

It may have been an honest mistake or perhaps a server error.

I don't see how that could be.
Anyway, Wayne said they know who it is, which I'm glad of.

We can count out that a mistake was the reason. The version/powered by credentials at the footer where removed.

Well regardless of who leaked it, which is pretty irrelevant now. The main point is it's out there to be seen as a live board now. So what's Internet Brands response to this going to be (seeing as they want you to blindly) buy vBulletin as of right now.

Are they going to put a live more up-to-date Demo online, or still play ignorant with customers demands?

Perhaps the (predicted...) sudden halt of license sales will spark some changes! :P

I predict another copy will be put up. You know how files are transferred around. Like shit off a shovel on a summers day with flies included.

Its a staged leak to get more promotion. That is my opinion on the matter.

Interesting. I wouldn't put it past them to pull such a stunt. They got the software down prity fast so this could be an interesting assumption.

I did wonder that also. But thought I might be being a little paranoid. However, you've thought the same too. That makes two of us paranoid.

Doesn't make sense, if they was going to self release it for promotion. They'd release the latest version that looks beta, not Alpha 5

I bet it will be all over the news sites (like Cnet blogs) by the end of the day. How much better (and free), promotion do you want?

Someone leaked one of the biggest forum updates to come along in years, who leaked it, and why? Was it a disgruntled employee, or was one of the jelsoft servers hacked?

    Better yet - who cares?

Instead of buying commercial time, just give people something to talk about.

The site is now down by the the way if you've not checked recently.

Yeah, we noticed. At least I've still got about twenty pictures of the vBulletin 4 style due to that one site.

I don't think it'll even sniff sites like cNet blogs, or any other high traffic relevant site for that matter.
