Under what circumstances would you break a link partnership?

I got an email today from someone angry that I had taken down a link to her site, when last I checked her site I couldn't even find my link. And later her site was down for months anyway, so I considered our link exchange void. Under what circumstances would you decide to break a link partnership? Would you do so if you were getting much less traffic than they were sending you? Would you do so if they changed their site significantly?

Because I wanted to. Its my site, I will do what, when I want.

Last time I checked, I'am paying the server bill, not that other person. If I decide I do not want to link to your site anymore, too bad. I'am grown, I do not have to explain myself to anyone - except maybe my mom, dad, wife,,,,,,.

Depends. If the partnered site suddenly became affiliated to porn, warez or other illegal activity I would break the partnership Straight away. If the site was constantly down. Then, I would give the partnership 2 weeks notice that I'll be removing the link. If I couldn't see my link at the other site I would ask why (as there may be an acceptable reason) I would wait for a response.

The partnership links I have with people are close ones and I'll accommodate them how I can (especially one partnership) who shows me the same courtesy.

It really depends. In your case, I probably would have removed their link as well. It's a mere free exchange so I don't see a reason to make a big deal about it.

If their site went down a lot, or I couldn't find my link, or even if their site wasn't sending me any traffic (but mine was to theirs) then I would break the partnership. But I would surely let them know that I'm doing it.

Well, I restored her link as the site is up again, so let's just hope it stays that way.
