Yes, I know new forums is probably the last ideas you want at the moment, but here's three that I've been thinking of lately, which I think would be good:

    * A guy forum, for guys to talk about guy stuff
    * A girl forum, for girls to talk about girl stuff
    * A work forum, for threads about work

    * A web forum, for anything dealing with web stuff (pages you thought were cool, any conversation internet related, etc...)

Not a bad idea, but if I remember rightly, a couple of months ago, a thread was started for 'sites we thought were good' and Alien closed it as a precaution against spam.

I think that's a bad idea...why separate what we talk about...plenty girls here talk about those guy things...no need to make anothe forum for the guys or for the girls...no need to separate us.

Ditto liltaz. There are not really anymore strictly guys- and/or girls - issues, there are people issues. I like the Web idea though, since it is something we all do every day : search it/explore it/add/delete to and from it .

The web idea would be nice if we had a few rules:

    1) No referal links.
    2) No multi-level marketing schemes.
    3) No sites that would detract from Alien Soup.

hm. i might spend an awful lot of time listening in on the "Girl stuff" forum, trying to gain insights into the female psyche .

I actually like the idea of gendered forums, if it were implemented and used properly. I don't think it would prevent topics from the more general forums, but it would provide an additional outlet for guy talk and girl talk.
I think it would also provide a forum for things that one sex might be uncomfortable discussing in the presence of the opposite sex.

Look at the bright side of the idea: virtually all farting threads would be shielded away from the women on the board. .

We could have passwords for the guy's and girl's sections....
    that'd be interesting
And you wouldn't be allowed to talk directly about ANYONE in them...just guy and girl stuff, privately
    .
    It'd be interesting!!
And if anyone is caught talking about another person of the opposite sex, they could be like temporarily banned from the soup (for like a week)

. DD dont the fart threads get started by the soup women so i think we would be shielding our self.

as for the idea i tend to agree with taz. I dont think it would be that great an idea unless it was really implamented right. I mean who is to say what is guy stuff and what is girl stuff.

I too agree with Taz on this. I don't think we need to be separated. Besides (no offense to any girls here) but I don't like "girl talk". At least in the stereotypical way. Start talking about nails and the new hair-do and I loose interest fast. One person's opionions on other people or a specific gender don't have to be shared with just girls or just guys. I think everyone should share their opinions with everyone else so no one is left out of girl/guy talk.

I vote we keep things the way they are. Besides, who really knows that the "male" members really are male and the "female" members are really female. No point in splitting it cause of that reason alone.

I didn't mean to imply that the forums would be there as a means for seperation, but rather as an outlet for guys to talk about guy stuff and girls to talk about girl stuff.

From the way I'm reading people's reactions, I think a lot of people are looking at this as the segregation of topics, and looking at that as a bad thing.
Meanwhile, every forum on this board segregates topics based on the content.
To say that we shouldn't seperate what we discuss would be like taking every topic in every forum and plopping it right into Water Cooler.

I don't agree with the idea of password protecting these forums. If a girl likes to talk about guy issues, there's no reason she shouldn't contribute. A lot of times, even though a discussion might be a "guy" topic, I can easily see the value of a female opinion. These forums should be open to everyone, regardless of the topic.

As for not liking guy talk or girl talk... if you don't like participating, don't participate. I don't like the interactive stories, but there are plenty of users who do. Do I prevent them from enjoying that activity, or deny them the opportunity to contribute? No. I just choose not to browse that particular forum. Does it prevent me from contributing to the rest of the forums on this board? Hardly. I just participate in those topics which interest me.

I don't see having additional topical forums as a detriment to the other forums on the board, but rather as an enhancement.

    *shudder*

Anyways...I think the guy/girl forums could work - maybe we just need to test them for a bit & see how the reaction is. I don't see a problem with it. I think the work forum is a great idea, and the web forum, while a great idea, would be a GREAT headache trying to moderate, because of the 3 items JH brought up, so I'll say no on that one for now.

I suppose, to be fair, we should then consider a Transgender forum?
