vBulletin 3 and/or 4? If you don't like the current version for some reason, do you think it's a bad omen for the future of vBulletin?

Not even thinking that far ahead, as I don't plan to be using vB by then.

I have no idea... and I don't think anybody does. At IB's current rate, it'll be just as bad if not worse. If they finally wake up and smell the coffee, they might get things right in the future.

vb3 isn't so bad. The early development of vb3 was good. but towards the end 3.7 and 3.8 it was bloat and half baked features which lacked functionality that really put me off. Vb4 absolutely killed it for me, though vb5 if going by history, is only going to get worse. I can't really see any good things on the horizon but this is just speculation on my part.

I don't think I'm prepared to wait 2 years for a company who disregards it's customers at every turn. There's loyalty and then there's plain stupidity. Heck, I could still be on 3.8 by then or switched to another solution which serves me better and houses my content in the way I think benefits me most and the community that I serve to.

Last night was just another eye opener. Have you bought your license? is your license now expired? because if it had then the patch vb released last night is not publically available to people to secure their boards who have a expired license and cannot purchase a vb3 license or upgrade to keep their vb3 boards uptodate. Luckily, I still have an active license but there are many that don't who are prity much stuck with a solution that is a security risk which begs the bigger question. Are you prepared to wait for v5 and forced to pay for vb4 just to get updates for a previous version (vb3) in the meantime while you wait. I think in these times we throw common sense out of the window and do the silliest of things because we had faith in a company that is no longer.

There ya go. Hate what I say, love what I say I don't care but you have to look at the bigger picture instead of getting excited about the future which looks bleak when potential problems you could be facing is just around the next corner.

:D yup. There's certainly more flies swarming around the average vbulletineer this year. At this time we may stink, we may not be able to walk into a foum without stinking it out with the vb stench. but what we do have is... what exactly do we have? Is our log cabins and fine wine. Oh wait, the fine wine is reserved for the rocket scientists at the annual vb christmas bash whilst they pushed out their mediocre crap. :unhunh:

I can't remain optimistic about this. I think deep down even the optimists are very much as sceptical as those who are indeed sceptical but stink just as much. :waiting:

    Anyway. Choke on the champagne.

Yes, the refactor process will be complete. And vBulletin 5 will more than likely be running on a completely new framework, that doesn't have the same limitations as the vBulletin 3 framework.

Yes but will it look and feel like vb4? Sure it will if history dictates the state of play in these tough economic times. I'm wondering if the next general manager at the time of vb5 development will be disbanded and leave the project in a state. Who knows. :unhunh:

Will vb5 developers and pr people learn from the fiasco that dominated in vb4? of course, this is all speculation and general assumptions.

Or they'll reuse code from vB 4. :unhunh: I bet the folks at IPS are having some amazing night time parties because of all the business heading their way. :P

I think the 3.x series reached its peak as 3.6.

The odd thing added in 3.7 and 3.8 were good, but largely it was useless social networking stuff that few people really use that was added.

I use 3.8, with all that SN stuff turned off (we experimented with social groups for a month or two, but they were a complete flop).
