I'm really wanting to start a community, which I've tried a few different areas, but technology is the only thing I really enjoy. But there's so many other forums out there on it that I don't think I should waste my time on it. What are some things I could do to help get it active and all? I was either thinking of a specific product or area related to technolgoy or a certain gaming area, but all areas seem over saturated with forums. Should I just not worry with it or what? I'm not really a member on any sites like these but one, and it's like the #1 forum out there so yea.

I've also thought about opening a gaming network of sorts, but that probably wouldn't work because of all the legal stuff and all.

If technology is something you love, learn about each day and keep up to date on and youre unlikely to become tired of it then Id say go for it. Usually you will find the only forums youre able to get off the ground are the ones youre truly interested in.

Even if the niche is saturated you always stand a chance of success, if youre professional with your manner and able to keep striving for success then you will get it :)

Do something like AA did... They had a huge contest that generates much activity, and are continuing to hold contests, and in return, are getting new members and posts a day. Plus, the administration is active. Not to mention AA's competition! So don't be discouraged because you have a big competition.

Do something different. Make your design exclusive, have one huge focus, with other topics, etc. You can do it.

Something like IOGaming is another thing I'm interested in, but I just don't know anyone that could help get it going after it's all setup. I have like ZERO real friends so it'll all be me. The technical side is all fine, it's the promoting it that gets me. Having no friends makes it even harder. I do have social networking profiles, but they're all really empty so no way I could advertise that way.

Right now I'm just wasting money on domains, hosting, and all that just for nothing :(.

@Tom: I know about having a unique design and all, but I barely have the money to pay for the hosting and vB license, let alone $100+ on a unique skin.

What are some specific technology things are you interested in? List them out, see what you have the most self-knowledge about, and then can expand upon it. Seems like you're just reaching for something in the air. Sorry if I read wrong.

All sites, based on my limited knowledge, pretty much start and continue when it's fielded with unique content. The no friends things for sure makes it more of a challenge.

For example, I'm only interested in PC gaming, rather than Console gaming. Very distinct differences. Even more so on what games, Indy, SP, MP, MMO, etc.

I do like MMOs, but there's already a huge forum about that. MMOGaming or something like that. I'm more into PC Gaming than Console Gaming. Mostly MMOs.

Have you thought about a forum for noobs?

The real basics with articles. Christmas will be soon, and the adults might like an idea what the basics are, for not only shopping for presents, but also they might like to know if a game would require a hardware upgrade (before Christmas morning).

Those same adults might like to play the game with their kids as well. The economy is not good and a game might be a nice gift compared to something more expensive like a vacation in the Caribbean.

    Might be a nice niche.

The attitude your showing won't help you at all, if you feel defeated even before you start, you will remain defeated.

If you're good with coding for a vB or any forum software, you can find people to make you a PSD and you can code it.
