I never filter any urls and don't really mind links to competitors sites as long as it is in some way relevant.
Yesterday one of the smaller competitors decided that it was a good idea to literally flooded my whole forum with the link of his forum. He replied to every single topic with it. So I had to ban him and filter the url of his site. I really don't understand people doing things like that, it is so immature .
Did something similar happen to anyone here ?

Talk about a pain. Sorry to hear that this happened to you.

I can't say that I've had to experience something like this. I've had problematic members register and SPAM the entire community, but it's never been a competitor - that's a horrible move (reputation-wise) on their part.

No, certainly not on that scale! How did he think he could get away with that kind of behavior?

Exactly... and if I were him, I'd be worrying about his community's reputation after pulling such an act.

it depends on how they did/do it.

If its a signature link, i'm generally okay with it, but if its blatant "GO JOIN MY SITE OMGWTFBBQSAUCE!!!" then I'm generally a dick right back and block their URL and sign them up for porn spam.

If you can get your links to stay, spamming is a good way to leap frog past your competition, but you have to be subtle about it. Its sounds like your spammer was on the "stupid" side.

Wow...talking about dumb not to mention rude.

That totally under minds the reputation of their community. My forun is ssslllooowww going and i would never spam my competitors. Heck, i can't recall posting a link on their site...includings sigs. Now i will on a related site like kevin's but their realitive to the subject matter. My main reason is to work on backlinks more than anything else.

    Anyhow, that is just crazy.
