Has your forum ever experienced a spam attack where a member has been banned due to spamming and resigned back up over and over for you to ban them in .htaccess and for them to sign up on proxies for hours on end spamming constantly?

I would hate this myself but I have heard a few have this problem.

Share your spammed attack experiences :)

Install PaulMs' miserable users modification and those kind of people will leave on their own.

Can you use that for those not signed in? Like for whatever IP? :D

Yes, you can set it to an IP address as well as user groups.

I believe Miserable Users sets a cookie on their machine, if I'm not mistaken.

Oh this sounds pretty good but that could still pose no threat to someone who clears their cookies and uses proxies to spam :(

Install the proxy blocker modification over at vbulletin.org.

The miserable users mod can work through the persons IP address, primary or secondary usergroup.

I haven't had this problem, but I am being threatened by a troubled member that her and her "revolt" posse are going to be attacking my site. Just dandy, eh?

I have no clue when it's supposed to happen or what I am going to do.

Ah, this reminds me of when Creative Hoster was up.

One of my friends joined and decided to be an idiot, and spammed a lot. I banned him, but he kept making alt accounts by changing the IP on his VPN.

Needless to say Chris got really annoyed.

We had a guy keep making an account called BanDamone. Damone was one of our mods and the troll would post porn everywhere as quickly as he could and in his posts would say he was part of the pr0n tribe. We IP banned all the accounts but he kept coming back. Eventually it just stopped and we have no idea who it was.

True IP mod? I just did a search on vB.org but couldn't find a mod with that name.

If this is happening at a certain time, it's as easy as moderating new users to stop them.
