review my brothers blog please

i put together my brother a blog because he is a huge WVU fan.. he is 15 and he wants to earn money and such so he has this now.

he asked me to help so im trying to get him all ideas possible and what you think he needs to do in order to make his blog successful.

General Review

Well done. Very clean and easy to navigate template. Keep that.

How to get it profitable

Make unique posts.
Install lots of interactive plugins, including the one that allows you to subscribe to a post when you reply to it. And the one that shows simialr blog posts. Etc.
Add Adsense. Get a decent mod for that, and make sure you're tracking the clicks. Make ads smaller that have a CTR less than 7%. (trying to aim for 10 - 20%) And remove ads with less than 0.10% CTR. They're not being clicked on!
Checkout in-text link advertisers. And consider sponsors for youe blog. Don't allow those that are trying to make cash out of your blog do so without them paying you a comission. Big or small.

 

First Impression: Looks ok, but the header threw me WAY off.

As it is a blog, I won’t really use the normal template I use.

Basically, I think the design is nice and gives you an elegant look, for exception of one thing… the header. Sorry but it is just very unappealing and ugly. Just throws me way off and I can’t get over it, I’d just leave sort of quickly, unless your latest post is something very interesting. The articles ARE interesting, even if I am not a big sports fan; I got caught reading a lot of them.

I really say that the only thing that’s making me not stay is that header, it really doesn’t go with the rest of the site which gives you an elegant feel to it, and also the pencils in the headers throw off the “elegancy” of the theme. I really like the Favicon, it really goes with the site! Since the icon is well shown all round the site.

Other than that, I’d say work on your theme… header…really.

Edit: I'd suggest the same thing that Dan suggested when it comes to how to make it profitable. Keep the posts unique and try to use social networks for this, a lot of fans are out there.
