    :o

This is probably dumb, but dang these little green boxes make me feel bad.

I am not sure whether to think people rate me down, or just plain don't care.

As it says on another forum I frequent: "Remember, They're Just Dots".

I don't care about them myself.

Which is exactly why I've been against mods like this one or the "Thank You" hack, even when I'm on the top of the "score" list.

They're also very easy to abuse.

I've even been pondering whether or not I want to use the "Experience" mod, which takes a lot of factors into account.

I've heard that the "experience" mod is a lot more appreciated than the reputation/thanks.

    What green boxes? :D

Don't use them on my own sites, have found them to be little used on most every site I frequent.

1 - They're really just dots, as the others have said. If you are ashamed of your score, you can hide your reputation from displaying in your postbit. (UserCP)

2 - Negative reputation is disabled, so there is absolutely no way to lose points.

I take abuse of the system we have here very seriously. Almost daily I have to delete ratings that were given inappropriately, and on multiple occasions, I've had to ban users from using the rating system (the hack we use has a userID-based banning field).
If you see that a post that is not possibly helpful, and has been rated as being helpful, please report it and the ratings will be removed promptly.

Oh, and, earning reputation points isn't exactly easy. I've made over 3,000 posts on vBulletin.com, most of which are support answers to inquiries in the forum, and I only have two dots. You'd think that people would be more appreciative, right? :P

On my forums I enable the rep, but disable the dots, so they don't show in the postbit.

    I got 1 good rep at vb.com!

I'm delighted with that because now I know people can see all the 'thank you's I've left over there. I really do not care about the number of dots, but am glad that people can see what I left them.

Well I think you are incredibly helpful because your posts are helping me through our server issues, or in our case, lack of server issues.

Hiding them from your postbit is probably the best solution. :)

I don't ever use the reputation system on any of my sites. But, I do use the "Thanks" buttons on my sites. I've been starting to look at the vBExperience mod. Anyone else have experience with that one?

Me and my users love the Reputation system. Only staff can give Negative reps, and we have the Thank You mod installed, which gives one rep point per thanks.

Only, we don't actually use it as a "Thanks." We use it more like the "Like" feature on Facebook... eventually we'll switch everything so it says "Like" instead of "Thanks."

That's quite innovative, at least to me it is.

    Thanks for sharing

I don't use the rep system. Initially we had it enabled, but the majority of the members were outspoken about it, so I just disabled it and things have been great since. I did recently install the thank you hack, just because sometimes it's nice to click a button to say thanks instead of spamming a thread with a ton of thanks when someone releases a new addon for example.

I tried the vB experience hack on our test board, but wasn't impressed. Too much bloat and it could easily be abused.

Yeah, we use the Thank You hack, but changed it to a like button. It really cuts down on spam from those who feel compelled to thank every post.
