Prism - Bringing web applications to your Desktop

Prism is an application that lets users split web applications out of their browser and run them directly on their desktop.

    Mozilla Labs prism

    Anyone seen or using this?

Im currently using this with CoTweet and its much easier and alot quicker then clicking the desktop icon then going to the webpage and logging in or just going to the web page..

Basically you download Prism, run the .exe fill in the URL and name and then select the options you want then choose an icon for it, where ever you chose to place it just click it and it opens in a window and your ready to go..

    Pretty cool imo

Sounds like Google Gears and that never really took off, even with Google tuning their applications for it. Of course now they have to build it into Chrome and their new Desktop OS because they won't have anything otherwise but still.

I wonder who Mozilla is really going to pull it off because they don't even have any online properties that they can use to leverage the technology. They have to rely on other's online properties. Though in reality all it really is about is Firefox without its own interface.

I used Prism once, I believe on my Mac.. Or it was a similar program I forget but have since reinstalled Snow Leopard and didn't bother reinstalling it. Wayne is right it's basically a browser with out the standard address bar/back/forward buttons etc. I don't see the point in blurring the line between Web Based apps and apps on your computer. People should clearly know what apps are online and offiline, IMHO.

That being said, I use Firefox as my main browser but frequently have Gmail open in Chrome only because I get lost in tabs on the Firefox side.
