<insert desperate poorly punctuated plea for help here>

Any ideas how to handle these types of situations?

It happens very rarely on my site but does happen. I've been quoting the person in full and asking "What's up? Why are you so excited?"

    Any other ideas?

    .

I think my staff close those threads, or move them to spam.

I ask them to please clarify what they need help with. Then I usually say that using proper grammar will greatly improve their chances of being understood and helped.

Sorry. I did not fully explain.

Those pleas for help are from people asking for help from others, in the correct area of the forum, and their question is quite appropriate.

But they are far too excited for the particular situation.

Let's say there is a forum about basketballs, they are desperately searching for the correct air pressure for their basketball.

D: Oh yes, I had those before. Pretty annoying though, as you said they're TOO excited. I treat them normally anyways, and if I have the answer I help them.

Either speak proper english or dont speak english at all.

Leet talk is forbidden on my site.

People that post stuff like that are on the fast lane to the ban list.

    This is some excellent feedback.

I googled Leet and found a wiki article
leet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Most people try to help, but explain the post does not contain enough information for them to be helped.

Those types of posts seem to snowball and others start typing like that if nothing is said, because subsequent people try to 'outdo' the previous posts.

It really depends. We had the person once get so excited that he realized the key to successfully torrenting and having a good ratio was to not turn off your bittorrent client when you finished a download. I mean, he was *so* excited about having figured this out, he felt the need to post a thread about it in a couple of different forums. It was like he discovered the secret of life or something. And the thread was fully of smilies and characters and misspellings galore. But, you couldn't help but be excited with him. He was famous on our forums for a few days. :D

However, dear Kokobuff didn't require anyone's help. If someone wants help, they can stop the l33t speak and realize they aren't texting or on AIM or anything like that. They can write something that doesn't require me to get out my decoding ring.

1 c4n typ3 733t... =\ Leet speak bugs the heck out of me. But people are so lazy they can't type whole words and/or proper abbreviations.

It's a violation of the forum guidelines, so I will ask them to please revise their posting etiquette.

This will aggravate me to no end. It's one thing to be excited - allowing such a sensation to have an effect on your grammatical structure and/or writing style is not tolerated.

Well quoting of his post with the
"What's up? Why are you so excited? "

question seemed to draw enough attention to the situation and others have been politely pointing out that there is not enough information to help. I am quite sure that the person is embarrassed enough at this point that he regrets starting that thread. Peer pressure is a wonderful thing.

I'm sure, Abomination. Regardless of whether or not it's what the original poster intended, something like that has to be embarrassing.

It is okay when it isnt used throughout the whole thread/post but when its used so much that you need to read it about 6 times before you half understand it, it is annoying although on our forums we dont really mind it :D

I invoke their sympathy for the poor old people who can't understand them... "dude, we have a lot of 30 year old members who don't understand the current slang, please be considerate of their rheumy eyes and arthritic hands"
