I don't really get that, but if that was to happen on my board. Infraction/Warning.

    I hate smartass users.

I've never had that happen (luckily - it sounds terribly annoying), but I'd certainly contact the individual(s) involved before taking any sort of administrative action (i.e. giving infractions).

Seconded, I would've done exactly the same thing.

My members (generally) quite like the nonsense threads, so I wouldn't necessarily shut them down. They're usually pretty witty with their nonsense, though.

I decided to react with saying -they should keep those childish reactions for theirselves- in a serious tone. Since my forum isn't large-scaled, I don't wanted to take heavy measurements.

Next time will be an infraction, otherwise more could follow with this behavior.

That was probably the best course of action, Demo. If they do it habitually then you can make more of an issue out of it.

I agree with Demo's course of action. I would post in the thread that the nonsense needs to stop and I'd like to get back on topic. If users continue to post nonsense in the thread, I will be forced to close it.

If, after that, users find other threads to continue their smart and non-contributive remarks, I'm afraid I would have to resort to warnings then subsequently, infractions. I can't stand the one-line replies that add nothing to the discussion.

    Never really happened to me.

However, if I ever run into a situation of the sort, I will give a verbal fore-warning the thread, official warning, infraction, temporary ban and then a permanent ban.

depends what sort of thread it was. if it was a serious thread, i would ask members to take the thread back on topic, and keep the silly stuff to the more silly off topic sections. we do have a section on one forum where all the silly stuff is allowed to be posted.

Funny... I see that on all the big boards but my site its got a certain kind of glow to it... everyone respects each other and I've not had much of the BS replies and topics typically it just a calm and quiet group...

    Thankful of that... ;)
