Do you allow your members to close their own threads? If so, have you ever ran into any problems with threads being closed for the "hell of it" (i.e. if the original thread creator does not care for the responses being posted, he/she will close the thread)?

Never have done and never will, I can see the mountains of huffs arising and threads being closed as soon as someone says something they dont like or want to hear. :)

On my forums we rarely close any threads; only when they've gotten completely out of hand. The members seem to view it as a very shameful thing to happen, so they're not requesting it.

No, if they want their threads closed they can contact me and I will close if I deem viable.

No, I Get Too Many PM's For Staff Promotions From Registered To Admin.

I Strongly DO NOT Accept. Also I Just Give Out A Lil Moderator Position.

But My Staff Does The Work.

No way, Jose. I've seen forums have that option and it was really dumb. If you need a thread closed, PM a moderator.

Never. The only time I would consider this is in a classifieds or "for sale" forum where the user no longer wants to receive any inquiries or replies to a posting.

Other than that, I wouldn't ever give such abuse-prone power to members.

Are you insane? That's what moderators/admins are for! :D There may be a few exceptions to the rule, but I haven't seen too many, if any at all.

I would/have done it in forums where the members create threads for themselves (showcases, classifieds, etc.).

no, closing threads is a moderator job. if they want a thread closed, they should ask a mod. threads only get closed if they are getting out of control (like a discussion getting a bit heated or something). if members could lock their own threads, some would close them for silly reasons

No, but it would be a fun April Fool's joke to let them close someone else's.

    ooh, I am evil.

Closing threads is very much a moderator perogative. Sometimes a thread will be closed at user request if it is deemed to be in the interests of the community as a whole.
