Hey guys. I've just started a R/C forum and I am looking for some active members and staff. The forum is still very new, but it has a lot of potential.

Once we get a fair amount of posts on the forum, we will be looking for a few people to help us promote the forum! We currently have room for some moderators, if anyone is interested.

    Nice topic to talk about.

You do have a lot of forums, could take a while to fill them.

I'm sure you know this already, but you do have much competition in your forum niche.

    Just to name a few:
    rcgroups.com
    rcuniverse.com
    rctech.com

and a whole loads of others...

Competitors forums are a great way to get ideas, find flaws, build reputation, etc.

In a forum niche that big, I would strongly recommend you getting vBSEO. Generate as much content as possible to get those google searchers to your forum. The more updated content you have, the easier it will be for you to gain members. It won't come at first, but you'll get there eventually...

Yes, I know my competition and have a plan for the board.

What's the best way to leverage the other forums to build reputation and generate traffic?

As far as VBSEO, that was the first thing that I added to the forum. I know content is king and a forum needs lots of it to become popular. I'm in a catch 22 right now. I need lots of users to generate the content for grow, but I don't have enough content to attract users to the board.

Would you be willing to share any tips and tricks you use to generate interest on a new forum?

As a avid rc flyer I just want to say good luck. As mentioned, very saturated market.

Rcgroups.com will always be the leading RC site. Why? Simply because they have hundreds, to thousands of DIY threads and posts. How-To's of any kind will attract readers very quickly. Use lots of detail, add many pictures, and make them easy to follow. They will bring many visitors if done right, and it's a topic that never goes away. People are always looking for answers, old and new, these just never get out of date.

Here is a great example from our forum:
    Outdoor-Fishing

I read this somewhere, and I think it's by far the main point that most forums miss. Today, starting a forum is very difficult. Unless you have the ultimate advertising plan, or an unopened niche, it's generally impossible to build a community that big, that fast. How to beat all of this, you ask? Focus on one part of the forum. In your case I would stick with DIY build logs. Forget about your other forums for the next 3 months and just work on that specific area. Once readers are attracted, you will begin to form a community around that "sub-niche". Those readers will be your foundation, they will begin to create threads of similar topic. Gaining members is easy, keeping the members is where forums start to fail. No content = no activity = no growth. Once you have a well established community, you can then continue working on building your other forums.
