Do any of you run local forum communities? Or ones for small, select groups like your book club or guild group?

I'm wondering how you try to grow from within such a micro-niche and how much time you spend on trying to make sure there's active discussion or new content.

Nope, I've never managed any forums within any micro-niches, although I would like to. Small communities can be pretty active and really nice to be around, and they're easy to manage (since there aren't too many members, things are more under control). Now, it wouldn't be easy to get started with a forum of that kind. Say you open one for your book club; not everyone will be familiarized with forums.

I run a local Automotive Community for my city and surrounding area (although any automotive enthusiast is welcome to join) most of our members are local. It's active enought as in there are posts every day, usually summer is a lot more active. I encourage growth by word of mouth and hopefully more and more people in town will know about it and join up. We host racing events and cruises in the summer. There's about 150 members on the forum since I opened about a year ago now.
