Well, this is going to be quite the blow to vBulletin 5 management, he's indicated on his Linkedin profile that he's left Internet Brands' employment:

    http://www.linkedin.com/in/lawrencecole

And another employee leaves the company. Guess workplace satisfaction is pretty low there now...

But his linkedin does. Seems like he's at least on his last days at the company before they update his title.

As Lawrence has now commented on it himself I can say that he is leaving to get his MBA- we have known about him leaving this month for some time. It is unfortunate it is happening so close to the other departures last week but they are actually unrelated.

His position has actually been up on Internet Brands job availability pages for a month or so.

I wish him luck in this new upcoming phase of his life.

The final days of Vbulletin are soon upon us. Such a sad thing that they did after acquiring the product. In good conscious I would not be able to be apart of that myself. So, understandable why no one wants to go down with the ship. It will be interesting to see who they attempt to sell Vbulletin to. I hope it is a much better company. There business plan is pretty much shit

I'll buy it for its actual market value now that they've destroyed its customer base.

So how many have left or been pushed.

If most of the good and experienced people have gone then who do they have left to do the work on VB5 or any new software?

    In what way?

Sorry, but I don't feel the same way. Although I think Lawrence is a very intelligent person and I wish I had some of his charisma, he definitely was put in a position, where none of his talent, intelligence or charisma could come to any real fruition for vBulletin or IB. There is no blow to vB5's or vBulletin's management, because, it just can't get any worse.

I applaud his move, voluntary or not. He definitely deserves better.

Edit: It looks like it was voluntary or rather, he had planned for a while to continue his education. Good luck with that!

Overreaction aside, Scott nailed it. Lawrence Cole is too good for Internet Brands.

You're right, he's a good person who made the right choice in leaving. And I applaud him for deciding to continue his education as a business student at university.

But you have to admit, he was an important person when he was at Internet Brands, and the constant turnover kind of hurts the product's chances of ever ending up as particularly good.

I think it's great that he's moving on, like the others said he surely deserves better than what he was getting. Great move on his part!

Lawrence wasn't as important as he should have been. He was the direct line from support to upper management and his position was between a rock and a really hard place. I didn't envy him at all. I envy no one who takes that position, because you end up being the middle man to one of the biggest issues IB has. Missing customer orientation.

You are right about high turnover rates. It generally hurts professionalism in a company.

I have to agree with you there, but if they're losing profits I guess that's what they turn too whether it is a correct or incorrect choice. Personally I think this was a dumb decision but since I'm not a worker there I can't make that judgement.

I can't say I'm bothered about the comings and goings at vBulletin. I will however say that I found Lawrence Cole's brand of marketing quite distasteful. He excels in evangelising about nothing much at all. Part of a self-serving ring who have very little of any substance to offer. Still, you are never to old to learn and I wish him well with his further education.

I wonder if anyone has graphed the typical stay for an IB employee. I could name off about a dozen great developers and leaders that have left IB in the past 18 months.

Is that much turnaround telling us something about what it's like to work with IB.

It would be wonderful if @LawrenceCole made a stop by here and let us know his reasoning behind the leave.
