This may be old news to many of you but I was just turned on to Portable Apps.

I was telling a friend that I wish I could do more at work to sneak some work on my sites in. I told him I'd love to be able to check my email accounts w/o using webmail. I have about 10 accounts I actually use and webmail is just a pain. I'd also like to look at my sites in other browsers. Installing anything on your computer here at work is strictly VERBOTEN.

He told me about PortableApps.com and I am in love.

I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird for email and LOVE IT.
GIMP what I already use for graphics
    Chrome (I'm using now)
    Firefox
    and some more.

With these you load the application to your USB drive and they run from there. This is awesome.

    portableapps is good stuff.

after losing my bookmarks in firefox a few times, I changed to the portableapps version of firefox.

it's easy to make a full backup copy by burning to cd. I can move a copy to my laptop just as easily.

I went looking on their site recently for a simple spreadsheet program. I could get a spreadsheet with openoffice, but I don't want that whole package, just a simple spreadsheet program.
