If your host has provided you with 2 IP addresses and you have two websites, in SEO is it best practice to have the sites on an IP each?

    Thanks :)

I would say 'yes', if you plan to link between the two sites.

I believe having two different websites on two different IPs will look much more 'unique' in google's eyes for links between the two sites and have a better potential of helping your SEO strategy.

Would it matter is one was say:

    92.34.78.51

    and the other was

    92.34.78.42

As long as theyre unique and not identical I am guessing that would be fine for SEO?

Generally speaking, yes. I noticed this recently with regards to my largest forum. I moved it briefly to a shared IP and search engine placement seemed to suffer a bit, although I know for sure that IP had some guys who carried out suspect SEO practices from time to time. I think if you've got the IPs then it's worth it, but I wouldn't go out and purchase an IP address for every forum or anything like that.

Thank you, I was considering the latter and purchasing a new IP solely for each site on the server :)
