I am interested in this. PM sent.

I have never bought a IPB site before, can someone please post some tips of what I need to look out for / how do I make sure I am not getting scammed I would appreciate it.

P.S. I am assuming this is 3.0.xx (i.e meaning the latest?) Like I said, noobie to IPB, however I need to start looking for new alternatives...

    Looks good to me.

There is no 'official selling' of IPB licenses, but the log in details can be transferred. Obviously the original owner can send an email to IPS saying the account got hacked and they could reset the account back, but for that price I'd say it would be worth it.

Even if you only used it for development purposes, it would be worth it.

    Even I was interested. : )

    The licensing works like this:
    • The license if forever.
    • There needs to be an 'active support contract' to download new versions.

Renewals of which are $25/6 months
You can let the 'active support contract' expire for years, then only need to pay when you want to upgrade. Access to their support forums is contingent on an 'active support contract'.

    Hmm...
Seems risky. I think I will do it (OP, please get back to me before tomorrow night as I will be away for a couple of days).

Let me get this right. If I buy, he just gives me the login details etc. I can then change the name, address, all personal details associated with the account to my own? Won't IPB say "Umm...no. No selling." And if they do say yes/don't care, after all the details have been changed to my own, what can the OP do? Since everything is in my name, I don't have to worry about him selling it again etc. Correct?

I'm just trying not to get ripped off...
Jorge, have you sold before? Is there a place I can go (maybe DP) that has some sort of feedback system so I can get a better picture of who you are?

That is how it works. Feel free to ask in their presales forum to confirm.

IPS does would prefer people not sell their accounts, but there is nothing wrong with it.

I dug into their forums and there have been instances in the past where there were issues with original owners saying their accounts were hacked.

But to me, the OP sound legitimate, and the price is certainly right. $60 vs $150?

I put this into google: selling site:community.invisionpower.com

    And this came up:
Selling own license - Invision Power Services

Honestly, I don't see how price can relate to the genuinity or legitimacy of a deal.

It doesn't. It is a risk vs reward issue. But that is just my opinion.

Anytime you buy a used item online it is risk vs reward.
Truth is, I am trying to cover all bases. I don't' want to be the next person who got scammed out of $$'s.

All I have left to fall upon in case this is a scam (and I hope not, I really want to try IPB and I will need a alternative soon...)is a PayPal dispute. Which really isn't any assurance. The one paypal dispute I got involved in (bought item on e-bay, never received or heard from seller again) ended 2 months later with me getting my money back after a whole bunch of effort.

    Hopefully this doesn't happen here.
Waiting on Log In details at this point...

    Just an update...
I sent him the money yesterday (3/29/10 at 11:26:01 PDT according to paypal) and have not heard from him since. It has been at least 24 hours since he got the money.

Says he was last online today at 9:12 AM, and the victim sent the money yesterday.

    I think it's obvious.

@mikey. (tapatalk is only one qoute enabled) Glad you didn't send money. The fact he disappeared is further "proof".
@ venom Yeah, sent money around 3 pm yesterday i think.
It is not your fault. Every online used deal always has this potental. Nice link, it will help with the claim. Paypal will allow him till april 5 to respond, then i can escalate it to a claim which then can be decided in like 2 weeks. Hopefully i get my money back.

    Wow...

If it were me I'd at least try to figure out how many other places he might be 'selling' things.

On the other hand he still could be legit. I can't tell.

    Alright folks,

Most of this I plan on putting in a article here soon....

First off, any time you buy on-line you take a risk that the seller is not who he says he is. In this case, Jorge did not sell me a IPB license, he took my money and left me with nothing. For those wondering, I did file a PayPal dispute which ended today with the return of the funds to my account.:D

A couple things to note before this gets locked.

    1) IPB as noted in like the 3rd or 4th post, is slightly more dangerous to buy as you must give over the entire account. The seller can always claim his account was hacked

    2) PayPal is a great way to buy on-line. If a person won't accept PayPal or another MAJOR on-line system, be safe and don't buy from him. PayPal is widespread and there is no reason why the person can't get an account.

    3) If you have been a victem of a scam and you used PayPal, file a dispute AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. As soon as you file, the money gets frozen and can't be sent to a bank. As time goes on (before a dispute), he has more time to get it out of PayPal's hands. Although you will win the case, in that time he could have withdrawn the money and closed the account. Very little you can do at that point.

    4) Be safe: It is great he shows a screenshot, but go one step further. Ask the seller for the URL where the license is being used and PM the 1st member on that site (who should be the owner). Ask him to verify that he is really selling that account, maybe ask him to PM you back here at AA with a code-word that you set. The point is to make sure that the owner and the seller are one and the same or that the seller has the owners permission.

That's all for now, more in the article (to come soon), keep in mind that PayPal disputes take time to resolve.
