When it comes to new member registrations, do you find yourself to be a) impatient to the point of no end (i.e. staring at the forum index, waiting for new members to appear out of "thin air") or b) patient and satisfied with the already existing memberbase (i.e. feeling no rush, members can simply come when they decide to)?

Personally, I'm a bit impatient. While I am always thrilled to have an already existing, active memberbase, I am also always looking forward to meeting new people - and seeing more activity.

If I am feeling particularly impatient, I go out and place keyword-heavy links in forums, blogs, sites, etc. and find new areas to leech new memberships from : )

It looks like (so far) we have an all-in-all "impatient" memberbase here. I'm still waiting for Nick's response, however...

    :D

It always makes me happy to see new members, but I'm not out there refreshing the index page every five minutes.

I'm the same, Michelle. While I love seeing newly registered members create introduction threads and posting away in various discussions, I won't "ride" the forum index page, so to speak.

With new forums I'm impatient. I'm always looking at who's online to see if a guest is registering. The worst is when you see a guest registering, only to find out its a search bot. :(

Once my forum is off the ground though I don't tend to obsess as much over registrations.

I'm pretty much with Dave on this one. When the venture I'm working on is my "baby" I am fairly impatient. Watching the Who's Online page is one of my favorite things to do and I love seeing when somebody is registering. It certainly is a let-down when they don't complete the registration, or it's a search bot.

Oh that's even worse! You see someone sitting on the registration page for 15 minutes till they're knocked off the who's online list. You have to wonder what happened to make them stop registering. :(

What does bug me, though, is when you get an email that a member registered, so you hop on to your forum to make sure their first post is answered quickly... and you see them online, but they never actually make that first post. Sigh.

Yeah, they just browse around and sign off, or they register and do absolutely nothing.

    Me too.
Watching someone register and then keep coming back without doing the email verification is annoying though.

We also have one banned spammer who keeps coming back everyday to browse the forum:confused:

I did laugh the other day though--on the who's online i saw someone registering and thought cool, then they received an error page, i thought oh oh, so did an ip check and it was a spammer. Guess it/they got the answers wrong for the question and answer software:lol:

There's nothing more encouraging for me than new member registrations. Until one of the many things mentioned above happens. Then there's nothing less encouraging, lol.

New forums can be slow for members to find and join...but our busy forums have members joining all the time, so just need to keep up with none confirmed accounts .

Very impatient, because I don't get new members on a daily basis

New members are like a stream flowing into a lake. And I'am just sitting there watching the stream. Its no big deal.

    I'm both patient and impatient.

While I like to talk alot, I do like to get to know all of my members personally.

If members are constantly joining (which I love, but hate, too) takes me longer to get to know everyone.
