idea for rank images I'd love to see

This isn't really a Graphics Request as I currently don't have a forum these would work on, but I thought I'd throw this idea out and see if anyone would pick up the ball and run with it. I would love to see a set of rank images of a plant. It could start off as an empty flowerpot for the newbies, then a tiny shoot after they've made some posts, and progress all the way to a flowering plant. You could have a dead plant for the banned users, too.

If anyone decides to make this, please post!

It would also be cool to make it animated.

Like as it goes on, a new frame is added.

Not at all, it would be interesting to have several interpretations of the same concept.

 

Interesting. You could (elaborating on your idea) is have it starting as a seed as you stated and a stem shooting out of it (horizonatally) and spanning more for each increment (more posts the longer the stem) And finally the flowering plany displaying for the end increment of the members ranks. I know this is basically what you said but the idea is a good one and I'm merely posting on ways you could implement this by having the seed as a starter and the stem shooting acroos (horizontally).

It shouldn't be too difficult to design or implement. I did a nature style once and had stems, leaves and flowering buds shooting horizontally across my .TCats (3 part image) so it's defienetely possible and easy to implement as ranks.

Go with your idea, it's a good one, and then refine it along the way for a better visual result.

edit: Infact, with the stems and adding leaves you could even do what I did and place bugs on the leaves for a more depth feel.

edit: I strongly advise against implementing any kind of animation.

 

Here's a quick mockup of elements I designed for my nature style 2 years ago. This might give you a better visual example and enduce more ideas for you. The top ranks would have a Partial flowering bud shooting out of it at the end (right).

That would definitely be a fascinating interpretation of my idea; my thought was a single non-repeating image that just becomes more complex as the user progresses, but a growing vine would be beautiful also.

 

I like the idea of your original thought, Michelle. What I picture in my head would be quite nice.

 

There wouldn't be repeating images as such.

seed 0-10 post count
The short stem would be for users who hit the 10post count
the longer stem would be for post count of 50
longer still 100 post counters
250 longer still
and finally fully fledge bloomage flowering plant 500

Obviously, the image would be seperate for each post counter catergory.

Well this is irrelevant, but I love the ranks in that screenshot.

 

Oh, I see now. Yes, that would definitely work. I could see either style of rank images being very popular for gardening, women's, or fantasy forums.
