Hymoo - Create Revolution (Beta Version)

I haven't looked too much into it yet, but it seems like some kind of vB forum that allows members to make their own forum right on it... or something.

Check it out and post back with your findings.

Came across that a while ago because I used to work on another forum with the guy who either created that or is hired as a promoter (I saw his post on DP).

It looks nice and all, but I don't know how many people would really be interested in having a hosted solution. I mean, it would be just like us going out and creating a free forum on Forumtion or something.

I'll set aside some time and create one to see what it's like.

I just looked at it quick but like Nick said it seems to be like an free forum from forumer and sites like that exept you can't have different styles you must have the same and you only have 1 forum for what you want and not one for talk about movies and one for television for example. You can but they not the same forum. I would never use this.

I signed up there a few days ago. You can create a forum section after you have a certain amount of post.

Do they realize that VB can only handle something like 1,500 forums? So what are they going to do when a member tries to create forum 1,501?

Is it vB? There is a ©2009 Hymoo copyright at the bottom, is that ok with vB? When viewing the source this came up:
    Code:
    www.w3.org
In any event it seems to have some interesting rules

I can see many reasons why that type of site would not work for my needs.

Interestingly enough, this is one of the few "forum" hosting services that will allow members to create an individual forum (based around a topic of their choice) with moderation privileges - I don't remember the exact name or URL, but there is indeed another similar community on the web.

I'll have to do some searching.

Have you looked at that introduction video they have? The picture they use there is pretty similar to vbulletin and the copyright thing can be that they just bought and branding free license

I suppose what they are doing is cool because if it works out the owner will technically become a big board admin. Most people don't realize that they're really just posting on HIS forum. At any time he can take all the posts/forums that were made and just steal them to make his own off-topic forum.

Indeed, and these members aren't granted administrator-level access - they are merely given moderator privileges for their specific forum.

How is it stealing? People are posting to his forum, and it appears to meet the vB licensing requirements because all subfoums are visible if enough things are clicked on. I'd call it creative thinking.

Good idea if it catches on and there is enough moderation to keep the spammers out, if the goal is huge numbers of users and posts. The quality will be a little lacking imho, and it is not something I would do.

I would only use that for chit chat, nothing important.

I don't think I like it, either. It looks confusing and complicated for what it does.

I kind of don't get the point of it when you can make free boards...?

I like the idea, but I think they are going to run into a serious problem when they hit vbulletins limit on forums. Unless that is where they plan on stopping new forums at, then change the sites policy that members can no longer create forums.

Hitting the forum limit on vb could be a good advertising point. "We have 1,500 forum sections to pick from"

I am not sure if the limit is 1,500, 1,300, or 1,100 - so do NOT quote me on that number!

There was a question over on vb.org a month or 2 ago about the maximum number of forums. It was over 1,000, but I do not remember the "exact" number.

    ------ edit ----

The limit is imposed by the amount of memory on the server.

Maximum number of forums - vBulletin Community Forum

Maximum NUmber of Forums - vBulletin.org Forum

What is the recommended maximum number of forums? - vBulletin.org Forum

It seems that I was wrong on the "maximum" number of forum sections. Its not recommended that you go over a certain amount because of the server limits. The more forum sections you have, the more memory you need.
