I'm thinking of doing video tutorials for IPBAdmin. Let me know what you think of everything in this first one.

Good start Bryce. Since it's your first, I'd like to offer up some suggestions.

    Some things I'd add/change:

Your voice - Needs more energy and enthusiasm in it
Starting point - State the version of the software that you're using (for example, "this is version 3.0 of the IPB software...", etc)
Promote your site - Be sure to mention your site, tools available on the site and use your tag line ("resources for IPB admins") at the beginning and end of your tutorials for 'branding'

Keep it up, you'll get this rockin'! :D

Yea, my voice is bleh. That was me having enthusiasm actually. I'm not good a speaking to audiences. I wrote a 'script' for that video so I didn't forget what to say and all that. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Don't write a script. :P

I did a Podcast Announcement for my forum several months ago. And I did it in two versions. The first had a script I was reading, and when I played it back I sounded dull and boring.

The second was just me saying whatever came to my head about the topics I needed to cover, and I sounded more upbeat and enthusiastic.

To add to what Arny said about branding, you may want to look into a free watermarking tool that allows you to put a watermark of your site's URL in the corner of the video.

Thanks for the feedback. And Ryan, I tried it without a script and I kept forgetting what I wanted to say, kept pausing a lot to figure out what I wanted to say, etc. It was more of a mess with a script than without.

You can still have a list of points to cover; just don't script all of your speech. :)

I'll try it with just a list of pointers. Though, I was never good with public speaking so it'll probably still be bad. I still don't know why I didn't find someone to partner with in the beginning as I'm more of a back-end person who likes to stay out of the spotlight with the public and all. I've just always wanted a forum so I said what the hell and opened it.

Bryce, you can always have someone record it for you. Join up with a broadcasting or voiceover site/forum and get another member to do one for you for free. Or, have someone do it for free advertising on your site or something.

I did a couple of podcast interviews and although I was my worst critic, folks said that they liked my voice and how the interviews went. But again, it was 'off the cuff' and not scripted. I had talking points and just went with them. It's much more natural with just talking points.

Am I missing something here? Your looking at a yellow dot for 20 seconds?

I suggest showing more of the screen - just showing one little section and what your doing does not let people see the big picture.

    I couldn't either :(
may want to see if you can turn the voice up :2cents:
it also seemed to be off to a slow start, maybe edit that part out so when the video stats, there is action on the screen.

    Cheers

Yea, I don't talk very good. That's another problem. I'll go try another one.

Yeah I agree with the volume. You definitely need to get that sound up a bit and give it a bit of punch at the important bits. Imagine an over enthusiastic workout video...

OKAY COME OOOONNNN, YOU CLICK HEREEEE, THEN YOU SEE THIIIIIIIISSSS, ALRIGHT, YOU'RE WORKIN' IT NOW.... sort of thing. Perhaps not quite like a workout video, but somewhere between that and what you got now.

I guess you intend to cover all things admin-wise for IPB then?

    Well, as other said

    1) Volume - I turned my gear ALL the way up to hear you
    2) Voice - I thought it was a text to speech it sounded that dull...
    3) Watermark.

    That's all, nice tutorial.
